Ice now blankets the farm. I was moaning about the cold last week but the real cold is here now. I take all that other cold moaning back. I now long for it to rise back into the 20’s. I move carefully about the farm in an undignified shuffle. Some areas are flat and smooth

a wee warm up
We go up above freezing today. For about four hours. Then again tomorrow. Hopefully, the barn can thaw a little in this time. Then I will scoop and clean out and lay clean straw for a few hours. It will be nice to be able to stay outside longer. Here is the sunset from last

waiting for tima’s call to breakfast
This morning it is -6F (minus 21C) and still. The sun has come up into a clear brittle slit-eyed sky. Once again we will leave the animals unbothered for a wee while yet as it is mean to get them up out of their warm beds and into these frigid temperatures until they are ready.

wolf moon to read by
Last night’s full moon was so bright I did not need a light to read. I was moon bathing in my bed. Wolf Moon. I was a little too early and I don’t think I was able to capture Mars. (Though thanks for the heads up Jim). I saw Venus though. I think. This morning

deeper cold ahead: rolling the barn doors shut
This country (the USA) is a country of extremes. The hot wind-blown fires in Los Angeles and the freezing temps here sliding even further down. I feel terrible for all those people and all those firefighters in LA. And as hot and fiery as it is over there we are getting even colder. Though I
