I was wrong last time. Skunk Stinks.

When TonTon got dealt to by a skunk last time…

That smell was nothing to the hideously mind bending stink he tried to bring into the house last night after tangling with the skunk again.

An absolutely gut wrenching smell.  It has sucked the air right out of the house. I am afraid to go outside and meet it full on.

I went to bed last night thinking how I would tell about how I made another big jar of Tomato Sauce as thick as puree, and a container of ice cream  scented with vanilla pods and a beautiful squeaky fresh cheese. We bottled the last of the wine and pear cider.

But TonTon is lying outside the doors wondering why he had to spend the night outside and I know that I am going to have to use all three of the potions you suggested last time..

.. to try and get this awful pong out of his coat but the whole house smells like skunk. This is very bad.  I was wrong last time. That was nothing compared to this.  The smell has invaded every corner. It makes me feel sick.

I will  have to try and clean him at least once before I go and do the milking.  He loves to watch the milking. But the smell of him Through the closed door is already making me gag. Imagine that in the barn!  We pick up 100 bales of straw today too. It will be busy and hot.   Wish me luck.

I have my rubber gloves ready, I am going in.

Have a stink free day.

  1. I was sound asleep in the chair in the living room one night, when one of the kids let our dog into the house…the acrid smell of Direct Hit woke me, gagging. Took days to get rid of the lingering scent, on the dog and in the house.
Lovely photos today…Isn’t that a grand rooster!
Best of luck. I’m off to evict the rabbits’ nest from the tomato planter…their eyes are open, and it’s time to move on!

    • That is it! Exactly marie, i got up to let him in last night and when it hit me i literally gagged and had to run around the house and back in another door because i could not bear to push past the dog ..he is trained to sleep outside the bedroom french doors so that is where he came to lie and we had to shut them, the house filled with the smell just from him being there.. shudder c

  2. Ok for the house you can
    1) Cut a couple of onions in half place in a little water in a saucer and leave in room
    2) Bicarbonate of Soda dry in a saucer in room
    3) Roughly chop up some Lemon Grass and leave in the room

… hope these help – I have never met a Skunk or its Eau DE Toilette but the above remedies are good for removing lingering odours in closed spaces. maybe try all three together if the scent is really bad. Enjoy your day 🙂 Laura

    • I have the baking soda out but did not know about the onion, it stands to reason. i shall put that out too.. all the windows will be open today even though it is going to get very hot.. i will take the heat thank you!! c

  3. That Tonton needs a good talking to: once was an unfriendly gesture, twice seems like open warfare. Poor you. I can vouch for the cut onion treatment, it works, besides being good for warding off an incipient cold, when placed by the bed.

  4. My mom’s dog gets hammered by skunks once a year. It takes 6 months to get the smell out of the house after she runs inside and rolls on the carpet. Take my advice and never, never, never install a dog door.

    • What will you push the little fella through when someone needs to check on grandma and you forgot your keys then! her dog door is multi talk! c

  5. Your description of skunk eau de vie makes me so pleased I live in a skunk free zone. Our dog would occasionally roll in something disgusting; she was shampooed and given a final rinse with pennyroyal oil……which made her smell like a very strong mint julep for a couple of days…………the house however, poses a far greater problem. I hope someone will have good advice for you..e

  6. I recommend buying a large supply of cheap tomato juice to keep handy. Coroners (and similar) stick a big glob of Vicks menthol under their noses for bad smells – it might work for skunk too!
Poor Ton Ton and poor you 😉

    • i did buy it last time you told me to Mad because i always do as I am told like a good girl, so i have it here ready to go.. thanks for the idea.. poor tonton.. c

  7. Love your photos today! Poor TonTon…I hope you are able to get that smell off of him!

Quite a coincidence because last night when I went to bed with all of the windows open and the fan on all of the sudden my whole bedroom was filled with skunk smell. Someone had probably hit one on the highway or something. I thought it was the strongest skunk smell I had ever encountered and it was gross! If it was that bad, I cannot even imagine what TonTon smells like!

    Good luck! ~ April

    • It was that bad, and isn;t it horrible how it gets into the house and will not blow back out.. I can smell it in the yard and it is stongest by the clothesline.. must have been the scene of the crime .. c

  8. Sorry to hear about Ton.. Now you will have extra work today trying to free the smell from him and the house…Ice cream was yummy and thanks for all the extras!
