For all cat lovers

Another tiny peek at Authors kittens. kitties-in-barn-016 By my reckoning they are about  5 days old.

They can both easily lay in the palm of my hand now. Growing fast.kitties-in-barn-018

They are very wriggly and busy though.

I brought them out into the light for a photo and just came out and fed them there. Then followed them when I hid them again in her special corner. Soon we will have to think of names.

As you know dandelions are protected around here, as well as being good food for me and for cows the flowers are good for bees. However I feel a little Hoist on my own petard. The dandelions in the asparagus patch are getting  out of hand. I need to put more straw over each of  the asparagus crowns to deter the weeds.

I love the colour though.

Good morning. Daisy arranged herself in a perfect center of the Dairy Mistress field, then called out for a photo. She has adapted beautifully to the green grass and is not being fed hay at all now. She still has her beet shreds with molasses,  a dash of cider vinegar and a few drops of mastoblast at milking time to strengthen her immune system. Her production is still increasing and I made ice cream yesterday! I will order my new electric fence today and begin to more intensively crop this field.  It is is almost tall enough. Queenie can come in to help.

It is raining here today,  and a bit colder.  Daisy has brought herself up to the milking parlour and is leaning over the fence mooing at the kitchen door. Time to begin. A  beautiful damp day ahead.  You have a lovely day too my darlinks. Al is well.

  1. I am so happy that spring finally arrived for you, and I am envious of your lovely dandelions. I feed them to tortoises at the zoo, so all of mine tend to die.

  2. If the kitties are one of each…sans and avec.
The green grass surrounding our Daisy really looks like
Spring has sprung on the farmy ! Hip Hip Hooray !
When are the piglets due to arrive !!
Have a great weekend,I am sure it will be full !! Nanster

  3. Oh good news about Charlotte. I wasn’t sure whether or not she was pregnant. Looking forward to June 17th. And the kittens are just precious.

  4. misfits other 1/2 here, love the kitties. Mom looks like your “Scrapper” & our “Olivia”. Her brother is a 17 pound solid black cat, “Oliver”. Love your blogs. Keep up the good work!

  5. That pic of Author looks so much like my old Baddy Cat it brought tears to my eyes 🙂 It’s wonderful how she just knows to take care of them… lucky kitties who are Farmy born & bred. Thinking of the dandelions typifies how the food world has changed for worse. People survived on them, bees need them but now the are treated as weeds… if only the Big Co’s could make money from them, the world would be covered in, probably GM, little yellow flowers.

    • you can buy them at the markets now i hear, so maybe they are making a resurgence.. hope so they are really high in iron… c

  6. Aren’t those 2 something! I so rarely see new born kittens or puppies so I forget how tiny they are but either you’ve got some gigantic hay or they’re teeny kitties. 🙂
Trees here are all in bloom, finally, though I hope this rain won’t knock too many petals off of the trees. The Evanston farmers market opens tomorrow and Il’ll be there bright and early. It will be nice to have fresh, local produce again. Have a good evening, Celi.

  7. Hi Celi
Oh my, those wonderful kitty pics! We forget how teeny, tiny they are as babies…..and of course Author’s a beautiful serene Mommie! What to say about Miss Daisy?! I think she loves having her picture taken …..she poses like a Queen of the Green!
I do so love following life on the Farmy….thank you, Celi!

  8. Laughing aloud with delight! Lunch soon: grilled fish with guess what – everything that Daisy is getting as a preventive measure as a side! Well, not the mastoblast 😀 ! And rocket and spinach leaves added! I SO agree with you about prevention being way better than the cure: dear Father above may punish me, but I have not even had a sniffle for the last quarter century and it’s mostly ‘in the food’!!!! Oh, am a dog person but that wonderful proud look in Author’s eyes 🙂 !

    • I could not agree more, good food is definitely the best foundation for a good life and we are so so lucky to be able to find or grow good food.. c

  9. Love the dandelions. I’ve been giving my husband a tour of the farmy and the last few posts. He was especially charmed by Blue eating the phone on the Cast of Characters….and the cats, he came with 3 cats ( years ago..luckily I passed their approval)
The house is coming along! And glad the Queen arrived (the hive hats are marvelous. Fascinators for bees!)
    Have a great weekend
