Pigs will be Pigs

Sheila loves her bath.  I do apologise for the angle but she made me laugh out loud! Raising a pig is loaded with fun.

Charlotte loves water too.

They wriggle and mud-about then stand and shake like dogs, their ears clapping against their heads, causing the real dogs and I to run for our lives from the spray of mud, shouting:  No shaking!  No shaking! You promised!

Breeding pigs is tons of fun too. Charlotte just lay in her mud puddle looking fat, fecund and drunk from the hose.

The dogs ran off to watch Karate Kid Chicken.  You can see why the Blue Heeler Puppy is called Blue the Mouth. He is getting so heavy John said we should call him Blue the Brick.

Yes, the Leghorn Peghorns are allowed out to play for a few hours each afternoon.  Having Howdy Time! Like at the zoo.

The Drywall Man  tilts on stilts in the Coupe, working yesterday at a thunderous pace. Today is a drying day for the plaster then he will return tomorrow.  He went home last night with fresh eggs and  the freshest asparagus for his family.

Good morning. Yesterday the dogs and I planted the Old Codgers tomatoes and pruned and trained his grapes. He planted the grapes  twenty years ago he said and they were in a tangle.  We dragged a chair around the garden for him to sit on as we worked and between us we started getting his yard in order for the summer.

I am off to pick up Author this morning and talk to the vet. I will let you know how she is. She had a wee op, no more kittens, but is doing well. LouLou tagged along so the cats are now all up to date.

You all have a lovely day.  We have sunshine!

your friend, celi.

  1. Looking at Charlotte wallowing in her beauty mud bath brought back a long forgotten memory Celi. My Dad, who emigrated to Saskatchewan to home-stead after the Great War was rather fond of pigs … didn’t like the bad press they received. He said “given a choice pigs would rather be clean that dirty”. He also said “given a choice he couldn’t necessarily say the same about people”. Have a gorgeous day. V.

  2. snort – oink. Mom says that about me all the time. It’s never a dull moment raising an oinker. Great pictures! XOXO – Bacon

  3. Those pigs are positively luscious. I LOVE THEM. Thanks for these joyous pics and words…they are a joy in the midst of this European economic muddle from which NOone is escaping.

  4. Hilarious photos of the sisters. I can well understand running for your lives–even the dogs know they’d better, if they know what’s good for them. The sound effects of big flapping ears must also be hilarious.
Hope little Author is home soon and healthy, she’s so cute.

  5. Apart from dogs , cats and donkeys I have always wanted a baby piglet to bring up as a pet. I have visions of house -trained and as clean as a whistle. I had forgotten about the mud baths! Fortunately I have promised not to have any more animals..age creeps on and I do not want my animals to out live us…so we are content with four dogs and three cats. but I’d still love a Porky!
They really enjoyed their bath and hose, bless their little tails!
Love to you all and of course to every single animal…..love ’em to bits!

  6. Glad everything is progressing on your little farm. Everyone looks happy with their lot, and I am sure each animal is finally glad spring is really here. Having said that, we have had heavy, heavy rain which walking dogs in has not been fun, Plus the little progress I made on all my clients gardens (and my own) will be negated by the weeds that are flourishing with the rain. Still my peas and beans are growing at a fast clip now, so swings and round-about flourish!! Hope the cats are both in good order when you pick them up, give Author a special hug from me!

  7. i think we love those piggies because they do what we want to do but we are too restrained. A mud bath sounds fun. I think the new addition would make a great writer’s retreat until mom is ready to move in.

  8. Blue is growing up fast. Good news about Author, too. How nice that you got this together for the Old Codger. I’m sure he appreciated it. My few little plants are doing poorly and I’m hoping that transplanting will help. If not, I’ll just buy some heirlooms from the farmers market. Right now, though, they’re saying another cold front is coming with temps in the 30’s at night. Hope this is the last. I want to get these plants outdoors.

  9. That is the picture-perfect representation of the old saying, “Happy as a Pig in…”
    Love it!
Bumped the tomato seedlings up to larger pots today…nights are still down in the low 40’s, so we won’t be putting them outside for a few more weeks.

  10. I’m so glad that Author is ok. I’ve been thinking of her. And what a lovely day the pigs had. Looks like my kids after an afternoon outside! And I cannot get over how big Blue is getting!!!
