And then it rained…

Only hours before we were to gather to bale the hay. After I had turned it into its windrows and tested it for dryness.

It rained.

and rained.  A 30% chance of a stray thunderstorm had appeared on the radar yesterday morning, and then in our sky that afternoon.

And so I cleaned. When I get angry I clean. There is no point in getting angry at the sky. But nevertheless, I cleaned.

So today, hopefully, the the hay will start to dry again. Though today there is a also 40% chance of scattered showers. Then tomorrow it is fine. Then all next week there are storms forecast.  I hope our window has not closed.  The plan had been to get it all in yesterday afternoon. I think I am going to have a very clean and tidy house.

This morning my pig people come to help me with the piglets. John has gone to work, so I had better get busy.

Have a lovely day.

Your friend, celi

  1. hi celi! i am so sorry it rained on your hay parade! i sure hope you can get it dried out before you get more rain. i know how important that hay is to you. i love the bed in the coupe. i bet the bedspread and the quilt have stories behind them! joyce

  2. Rain on hay has been a major problem here in Minnesota, too, as rain seems to have fallen nearly every day since the snow stopped in May. More here again last night. I know. No consolation to you. Perhaps today the sun will shine.

  3. Oh, that bed looks so inviting . . . won’t that be a wonderful place to rest your head on rainy days (after the cleaning is done).

Good luck getting the hay dry and safely stored away.

  4. I clean when I am MAD too thankfully most days this place is FILTHY 🙂

Sorry about your wet hay 😦 toss it about a bit when the sun is shining and hopefully you can get it all baled it it tying knots any better yet? Seems everyone I know puts their equipment to bed for winter and they were working fine then all must mess with it for weeks each spring to get it to work again thankfully I do not have more than 3 acres so I will never have to do all of THAT!

  5. Oh Cinders, I’m so sorry about that bloody rain but look how green and lush everything is….I know…that doesn’t help dry out the grass hay now, does it? Hopefully tomorrow you will be able to get it in, even if it’s just a little damp!
The bedroom looks lovely and also the stories behind the spreads remind me of a couple quilts and bedspreads that I have that were made by my dearly loved grandmother! What those women didn’t do back in the old days is so amazing to me! And come to think of it…there is one on the farmy who is just as amazing at all she does! 🙂

    • I know, and it is being rained on AGAIN as I write, but I think it will clear up this afternoon and tomorrow looks like we might have sun, we have to bale tomorrow, last chance before 4 days of rain.. i need to find a spot to stack it covered outside, so it does not burn the barn down .. it will get hot.. the good side of that is that i will have to feed it out asap, so the Bobby will fatten up in a hurry! I just need to get it dry and in.. c

      • I was hoping that the rain that was falling on me as I was “tidying up” the cut hayfield was missing you, Celi. My knowledge about ruminant nutrition is sketchy at best, but when we would have “horse hay” that got rained on, or baled a bit damp we would say “well, we’ll sell it to the cow people”. Were we just being ignorant, or can cows consume hay that was put up under less than optimal conditions? Granted, you’re losing some nutritional value so it’s not what you’d hope for, but can hay be “salvaged” for cows that would not be for horses, do you know?
Fingers crossed for the best possible outcome from the current situation…..

        • well i won’t be milking a cow this winter..so it should be ok if i can get it dry.though noone will get fat eating it. i shall go out now with my fork and start heaving it into the truck, then into the barn to dry, i just cannot bear watching it get rained on anymore.. I had better get busy, 2 acres of wet hay is going to take some time.. c

  6. What a lovely bedroom. So sorry to hear about the rain, which would be most welcome any other time. Your header caught my eye this morning. Lovely shot.

  7. The crocheted bedspread!! Somewhere I have one. I had forgotten about it. Buried away in one of the linen closets. What a glorious, glorious room. XX v.

  8. We need rain here in Colorado, fires are everywhere and you need some of our
heat…I even did a rain dance with the Grandkids…..

  9. Celi, yesterday I wrote to thank you for mentioning that the Arthur mulberry tree is doing well, but I noticed my comment did not “take”. Anyway, thank you…I love the elegant simplicity and beauty of that bedroom!
I’m hoping the weather holds for the baling.

  10. I clean when I’m angry as well. And when I’m stressed or worried. It’s a dead giveaway of my mood. 😉 I hope the day is better today. The coupe is looking fantastic!
