The two piggies I have sold were loaded Into the Stock Trailer without any problems and young Red Hat Matt and his lovely wife came to collect them. I feel much heartened after meeting her because these pigs have been raised by a woman and are used to the constant chat from a woman’s voice as they are being fed and led about. She will do just fine. Though I had to stop myself calling later in the afternoon to see if they had got their two new piggies installed OK. I have become a worrisome mother.
So now there are four. A much more manageable number.
They were locked up so they did not chase their brother and sister down the drive. Though Ton did and had to be retrieved. He was very agitated, after all he had been guarding these piggies since they were born. Some one was stealing them!
But he has other babies to guard.
And some who are not so young either.
The bobble headed owls, I have named them Bobble and Squeak, are shifted about the gardens every day and are doing a grand job of keeping the birds at bay. Plus they are kind of comforting to carry about though I am not sure why. Comfort can be found in odd places.
The hay baler is still waiting, but that’s OK I am good at waiting. Today we should be baling. Most of yesterday everything stood absolutely still in dripping mist but today is dawning clear. It looks good.
Good morning.
I hope you all have a lovely day.

Happy Hay Day Cinders…may the sun gods be looking down on you today! I can not believe it’s September already…but maybe you will be in for a little drier weather now! Poor, sweet Ton…he must have felt like a mother does on her child’s first day of school…and probably so did his mama! 🙂
Bobble and Squeak are great names. Hope the hay saving goes your way today!
Terry is up and about cutting the last of our alfalfa for the year. This making of hay is always so fraught with tension and concern. Magic thoughts for perfect hay, perfectly put up and perfectly smelling in your perfect loft in the barn! ( I love the smell of fresh hay and good hay in the bale)

Yes, TonTon is a dog who takes his responsibilities very seriously. I’m sure you’ve seen the joke circulating the Internet how each breed of dog responds to changing a lightbulb. The Border collie offers to rewire the house as well.
I know just how you feel wanting to call to see if the piggies arrived safely. Hard to let go. I’m happy for the Red Hat Matt family though. The happiest days of my life were the days I adopted a cat or dog. Adopting two good size pigs must be deep-breath-taking. And it is sweet they wanted to keep the gilt company.
Ye it will be nice to have another pig while she is settling in, Those Border Collies! Obviously I am not training him hard enough though, I still have lights out! c
I thought it was going to be an unhappy pig story, so I was relieved to find it had a happy ending. The pigs have grown so quickly. Good luck with the hay baling.
I’m sorry, we have had a few too many miserable pig stories.. farming is not for the faint of heart they tell me.. c
Bit of a giggle over the worrying how the piggies are adapting – You are right it will be easier with an adoptable “mom” there. Poor Ton, he probably thinks you’ve lost your mind letting his charges be taken away.
The owls do give an off an air of “Do not worry, we are here. All is well.”
The piggies are like kids leaving home… its ok you will be able to visit, I imagine. They will be fine, and won’t forget you. They will bring much happiness to their new family. What a gift you have 🙂
Glad to see your two piglets get a good home. It’s a relief and a little sad at the same time I am sure! Love hearing about Red Hat Matt :*)
Now, I’m not sure I have the heart for a farm, it would be tough for me to give up those little piggies. Honestly, I don’t know why I get so attached to.. well, everything! I’m glad they have a lovely new home and a woman’s calm voice to soothe them:)
How great that you’e found such a nice home for the piggies. I’m sure they;ll be well looked after. No rain in this week’s forecast for this part of Illinois. I hope that includes your part, too. Went to the ballpark today to watch the Cubs lose another one. The weather was great and the beer cold. That’s about all we can hope for these days. 🙂
Congratulations on releasing the piggies to a good home. This is a fantastic outcome.
I would have wanted to call and check on the little pigs as well. 🙂
Can’t say that I blame Ton for going after the piggies – I mean it is his job after all. I love your owls and I’d guess they’re a lot quieter than our great horned owls who have been serenading us day & night. For some reason this year, they’ve been very agitated & we used to hear them during the day if someone got to close to their nests but this year it’s been almost constant hooting. I’ve been very curious as to what’s got them in an uproar.
