Dogs walk

Now that I am not milking in the evenings it feels like I have so much more time for weeding and walking. Two of my favourite past-times.

The beans in the fields are so tall already Boo has to pogo jump through them so he can see where he is going.

Today my helper arrives. It is new to me to have a stranger come to live in the house and work on the farm for the experience.  It is also new to have a bloke working with me. It will be interesting to see what area of the farm becomes his passion.

Lets hope it all works out. He found me through the woofer program. Pop over to have a read if you have not already. Then you will know what it is all about.

Now I must stay very busy today so that the chores are up to date and the house in order so we can have a proper orientation without me flitting here and there.  The people who come to work on farms through the woofer program are not paid, they receive room and board. So I willalso  make sure that he is fed well! It is all a very new experience.

I hope you have a lovely day.

Your friend on the farmy,

celi

  1. How lovely to be getting more help C! Here’s hoping you will have time to put your feet up for a wee rest in the next week. Boo looks too funny jumping through the beans.
    Have a wonderful Monday.

  2. Interesting, the woofer has no frame of reference from a Farmy POV… what wonderful things he has to look forward to, as well as helping out 🙂

  3. How long is he staying? Be nice to have some muscle around to give you some rest from all you do. I could do with a ‘bloke’ around here for a while too LOL Not sure I qualify for this program though as I am not a farm, but I could sure teach someone a lot about gardening and cooking, preserving the harvest etc.

    • Sorry to jump in but I just saw your comment and thought I’d suggest HelpX. I signed up to it (as a volunteer, not as a host) last year and it varies from the WWOOF program in that many of the hosts don’t have farms. I’m not sure if WWOOF has restrictions on who can be a host (i.e. whether you have to actually have a farm) but I’d recommend checking out HelpX, as well as WWOOF, if you’re interested in hosting volunteers.

  4. Hope he’s a big help and you all enjoy your time together! I can’t imagine not enjoying time with you on the farm! What an adventure to get to know all of these new people and be able to share your life with them. Have fun! ~ April

  5. I picked up a WOOFER hitch-hiker last week on my way home from the supermarket. He was heading for the ferry to the Western Isles where he was going to help a chap thin out a couple of thousand sapling conifers. He was such s pleasant young Italian man that I ended up giving him a minor guided tour of our part of Skye! I hope that your young WOOFER will be as nice!

  6. I hope your WWOOFER is a good helper and that you both enjoy the experience. How could he help enjoying being with all your wonderful characters.
The storm which has been threatening all day has arrived, and all Hell is breaking loose around us.

  7. We have had HelperX which is similar to Woofer. Since 2011 we have had 15 helpers and everyone has been a different experience, some not so good , some excellent. However I have always enjoyed meeting new people and getting a taste for foreign foods. My last one Hannah from usa has changed me to vegetarian foods. Not 100% , not vegan, but more or less vegetables. Most interesting to see what I can make. Hubby still insists on meat, so you can, t win them all.
have fun and relax with your helper..the first of many

  8. What a cool program that is! I just read about it. Boo is so happy, look at that smile.

  9. Ah, it’s good to hear you have discovered the WWOOF organization. I really like the ethos behind it. I haven’t done it myself but one of my brothers has done a lot of Wwoofing in the UK, France, Spain and Italy, and he had great experiences.
