The Thief

Lunch yesterday was a glorious break and the framing is in place for the new Bastard Mink Proof chook house wall.

Later I was sitting on the step below the bedroom French Doors, catching the slightest of breezes in the shade there (it was very hot yesterday)  and Tima the Terrible came wandering past looking for all the world like a lovely little piggie out for an afternoon stroll.

lunch-008

TonTon knew better though.

lunch-006

She sauntered on by, a happy little piggie. TonTon still unnconvinced.

lunch-011

Did you see that? Did you see that sideways smirky glance.  That pig gave me The Look!

After thinking about That Look for a minute  (It was a slow hot day) I followed  her … and sure enough. Tima the Terrorist. At it again.  Head deep in the tomato bushes.

She saw me, her bottom froze, then, without a warning beep, she  suddenly reversed back out. Turning like a mini bus she raced back past me squealing. Tacking port and starboard to avoid my scooping hands.  Her red ripe plunder held high in her mouth. She ran as fast as her little legs could carry her  – down the garden path, past the house,  round the corner, across the fallen piece of firewood, under the tractor, through her droopy pallet gate and straight under the apple tree into her eating corner. There she came to a halt with a roadrunnner screech and blinked.  Safe, she gently placed her tomato on the ground, said her Grace like a good piggie  and proceeded to solemnly and thoroughly eat that big red lunch – with her mouth open. As you do. lunch-013

Naughty piggie.

This fly is the fly I hate the most.   It lands on my cows and literally sucks their blood. Horrible. It is a big black Horse Fly. I take a fly swat when I visit the cows now.  And even if I don’t have my fly swat I wack them with my hand. The cows are always grateful as they often land right where their own fly swattin’ tail cannot reach.

Here is a wider angle shot from above the table so you can see my open plan living area. Just for context. Do you see that very serious big steel plate on the left hand side of the table. That was on it when I bought it. It is screwed down.  Isn’t it great? It is an old machine shop bench. It has holes and cut off bits and worm damage and is held together with enormous obvious heavy duty screws. It seats nine comfortably and weighs A LOT.  I just love it.

I like furniture you can USE.  You know what I mean?

lunch-001

I hope you all have a lovely day.

Your friend on the farmy,

miss c

  1. Will you please tell me the name of the pink flowering plant??? A friend gave me one, it is flowering for the first time, and I have no idea where/how it wants to live. Is it an anemone?
You may want to try Living Libations Forager’s Balm or Spray on the cows to keep the flies off. This time of year the mosquitos at my house bite through clothes! and the Forager’s helps. I’ve been giving my *old dog* a drop of LL’s copal essential oil in coconut oil to eat and it seems to have perked him up – or something has. I think everyone needs an old person and an old dog in their life 🙂

    • Morning Lacey, those pink flowers are Anemones. They are quite my favourite late summer flowers. I divide them every year to get as many as I can. The best kind are given to you by friends. Are yours pink too?.. mm copal essential oil, I must look into that for our Poor old dog.. he is very old inn this heat..c

  2. This was a laugh out loud post! The photo of Tima with the tomato in her mouth is priceless. She is so cute and even cuter when you discribe her sneaky antics. Have a great day.

  3. Tima’s antics has me in stitches, but just reading and saying “Bastard-Mink-Proof-Chook-House” has me spitting laughter. I’m sorry. Truly. But that phrase is just to edible for its own good.

  4. What a brilliant idea to have the metal plate on the table…and what a great table it is. Tima looks very pleased with herself and like she’s saying “What?” I’m sure she thinks the tomatoes were grown for her pleasure.

  5. I love that table and can almost hear the wonderful conversation going on at mealtimes! The hot plate is a fantastic idea. I laughed at self service Tima!

  6. Ha ha ha!! Goodness, Tima the Terrible is clever as they come! Ya gotta love her! I let Daisy in my tomato garden last night after I had picked what I wanted – it’s nearing the end of production anyway in this heat. Well, thinking she’d nibble plants and a few cherry and plum tomatoes, I weeded while she grazed. Suddenly I heard my bucket make a racket and there was Daisy deer with her head in the bucket eating my big, ripe orange and yellow tomatoes! Why not go for the easy pickings, eh?

I love that table of yours… so functional! And I too, hate those black (and other) big horse flies. They bother the deer something fierce. Daisy lets me swat them on her, and FD saw Spirit capture one in her mouth the other night and she ate it! Spirit especially hates the flies and we often see her try to outrun them. I feel for mammals who must deal with those horrible pests!

  7. Ditto Robin Hansen. I guffawed at that photo of TIma and The Tomato.

And oh, Miss C., what an elegant table. I went back to find Marmrlade. Very subtle, but I finally found him/her. Has it ever been settled?

    • Marmalade is definitely a HER and makes it known. I have decided to let her have kittens then i wil have her fixed. She is such a nice wee cat and I am sure she will have them inside where I can protect them. No tom cats yet though, we may have to wait until manouchki grows up. c

  8. Lol, Robert and I had a lovely chuckle and now I can’t wait for a baby Tima the Terrible for Chloe…gulp. 😀 Love the table. There’s nothing better than saving such wonderful old bits of history (especially when they’re a bit rough around the edges) and re-purposing them. 😀

  9. That is a nice table, there is much to be said for a table one can work on. The metal edge is the perfect hot pad. Apparently, Tima was in the mood for a take-out lunch.

  10. I am MAD for your farm house table. The perfect length – the perfect width. And indestructible. I have shown it to the Good Husband. Make me this. Exactly like Celi’s. “We’ll see.” Hmmm
