I decided this morning that I would walk the streets before starting the writing of the day.

It was just past dawn. That part of the day when the colours are deep and expectant.
On the way back I had drifted into a scented zone. I saw myself drop my face to a flower more than once inhaling the perfume to help me identify it.

Walks can do that. Once you have circled the perimeter you can relax (no threats, no dinosaurs) and just wander past the gardens.

Melbourne people create beautiful little front gardens.
Our sense of smell used to be critical to survival but do you use yours as often now? Consciously.
We smell our food right? And bodies. But after a very short while we flick to sight and sound.
I find scents interesting. My son believes that many people have experienced a change in their sense of smell post covid.
Do you agree?
I drink a ton of water during the day hoping this will keep all my passages clear. My nasal passages . Moisturizing my nose from the inside out.
My early walk sparked so many words that I had to add to my list for the day. Now I am late posting!
It is going grey now. The sky that is. 9.15 am Melbourne time. The sun is retreating. But that’s fine.
I am going to finish the back patio today and then start on the front.

Have a lovely day my people!

Sadly the scent of summer flowers is being washed away by rain here – a few weeks ago, everything smelled of elder, but I did notice a beautiful freshness on Saturday after a particularly heavy shower.
Following on from Squealing Pig wine …I enjoyed a few bottles of Kylie Minogue Rosé yesterday, with friends during a long Sunday lunch. It was surprisingly good!
I have a very, annoyingly, keen sense of smell. I smell everything and wish I didn’t a lot of time. But I SO enjoy the good smells that I just try to learn from or ignore the bad ones. Sitting here smelling lots of lovely breakfast cooking smells at our current venue in Broome, WA. 👃🏼 ☺️
thanks for taking us on this lovely walk with you, I can almost smell the flowers….
I had the Hong Kong flu years ago & was very sick with it. I lost my senses of smell & taste. Over the years it has come back somewhat but not completely. So I add extra spices & herbs & salt to most things. Not sugar though. I still breathe deep & long to smell. I loved loved the scent of our winter daphne at my last home. And my old fashioned David Austin & other scented roses & honeysuckle. Soooo lovely.
when i clicked on your page to read the rest of your thoughts, it went straight to a page to donate and sign me up?????
I lost my sense of smell (and taste) last time I had covid and again, this time. I did wonder whether it came back altered. It’s a strange experience, food is mostly just texture at the moment! Last time it came back in around 2 weeks so hopefully it will do the same this time.
What a peaceful walk, those front gardens look beautiful.
I just cannot imagine not having it though my son thinks that now half the population are smelling less than before.
So I have two sons with very limited sense of smell due to mild brushes with covid. Hope yours comes back!
Thank you, it is slowly coming back – and I can taste food again. Joy!
My sense of smell has always been acute, and luckily still is. From three rooms away, I call to the Husband to switch the burner off under the rice, or smell when someone has been in a room earlier. I do love the smells of early morning in the tropics, not so rich and varied in winter, but in summer it’s positively riotous. For me, the smell of winter is the start of the sugar cane harvest and the mills beginning to process the cane. It smells like freshly cut grass mingled with brown sugar and a small overtone of vinegar.
The sugar cane scent sounds quite nice actually. I would not mind that.
