Pigs get to go back to bed on rainy days

We had steady rain all night. So much rain that I actually sat up and recorded it for tonight’s SubStack SoundScape.

Raindrops rain puddles

So, be ready to close your eyes for that; coming out at 5pm. The sound of rain on a tin roof. But nothing to see. All dark. As you would expect at 2 in the morning.

Rain rain into puddle

It is warm this morning and still raining so everything has greened back up. Quacker is thrilled with the puddles.

FreeBee is up and was out for his breakfast but still looks annoyed. The rain has turned their outside areas to muck.

Neither of the big pigs are satisfied. Jude is like bc a caged bear, not wanting to go out in the rain. I will make them more bread. That will please them.

It fascinates me that we all see the same moon but our hours of light are all different. When does your sun set?

4.30 pm seems way too early for the sun to set. I drive out to my 2nd job at 5pm and it is already dark.

Lots to do again today so I will leave you with this pic of Wai and Tima – back in bed already.

I am also worn out this morning. I could go back to bed easily! Wish I was a pig.

  1. Rain on a tin roof sounds so relaxing. I feel worn out this week too. We had to euthanize our 12 year old parakeet and then I tested positive for Covid. We did just travel so picked it up then. Hopefully it doesn’t go through the house now. So far it is only me and it is mild. Though energy has been very low and the scratchy sore throat is very annoying. Oh well, I’ll have even more antibodies now!

      • Yes it is sad when our pets leave us. It is part of having animals, as you know. Though I was relieved after it was over that he wasn’t suffering, his legs became paralyzed, possibly a stroke. It was hard to see him like that.

  2. Good news re Freebee, l hope. No wonder you are tired, working the farmy by day then an evening job, to say nothing about being awake and recording for us at 2am! No snow in our part of uk, hurrah!

  3. When my three year old climbed into bed with us at 3 am this morning (she was freezing, having kicked off her covers in her sleep), I was hoping that it was Saturday. Alas no. But now it is Friday evening and I have a hot water bottle at my back, a cup of tea at my side, and a blazing fire at my feet, and it will be Saturday when she climbs in at 3 am tomorrow.

  4. At least the rain brings a slight truce between Wai and Tima. Shows how smart pigs really are when the world is harder than usual…just getting along for everyone’s benefit.

We are getting rain for days and days, but that means snow in our mountains so our skiers will be happy. I think our sunset/sunrise is about the same as yours but on rainy days who can tell when the sun never appears from behind the black clouds.

I hope that there is no real cold forecast before those lakes near the barn can dissipate back into the soil. Quacker would have his own ice rink but for others…danger for sure!

      • We have a good amount of tap water but are careful with it. No one has lawns that need watering or anything frivolous like that. Palm trees seem to find water somewhere as they thrive here as do lemon, orange and olive trees. Every now and then we get a good solid rain, but the earth is very sandy so it sinks right in. There is never standing water like on your pictures and a couple of hours later it is all dry again.

  5. I’m trying to cut down on my “bread eating’. So glad Wai and Tina are able to eat my share. HA!

  6. Brat and I are with the pigs – we went back to bed. The squirrels are all tucked up in their dreys and won’t be out for Brat to watch and It’s more comfortable to nap in bed than fall asleep in a chair in front of the computer.

    • I honestly almost went back to bed but alas the MiL beckoned! She is going to visit one of her families in Missouri tomorrow so I am very much looking forward to the break! Maybe one day I will feed the animals then just go back to bed!

  7. I’d been thinking of you and your other job at the end of the day… it’s hard to both get up for work and come home in the dark even if you start in the morning… but starting in the late afternoon in the dark would be discombobulating!
Our southern hemisphere summer sunset is currently 7.39pm but it will get later. It’s hot & humid. But beginning to feel like Christmas.

    • Hot and humid and Christmas! I do miss the summer Christmas but those airfares are crippling at this time of year! Plus I am more of a fan of a chili-bin under a tree at the beach than I am of the actual Christmas palavalava!

  8. I’m further north, so my sunset is earlier than Dale’s but yes, the days are getting longer still, and the Christmas lights are going up along the street. It’s 8.15 and 80°F still. Welcome to the tropics, baby… I’d like to come back as a pig, but only if I can live on the Farmy and eat your bread.
