An Experiment with Movement while Over-Tired

Not that I was terribly tired of course. But people like me try to pack in all the things on all the days.

And yesterday was one of those days.

I thought I had done ok but when I got home last night – my evening Take Ten video had been published to the list (are you on it?), as scheduled but without any headline and no words. HORRORS!

I am not even sure how that could happen. I KNOW I had set it up yesterday afternoon to publish at 5pm. Every one of these vids takes a good hour to prepare. I set it up before I left to go to work but somewhere along the way the placeholder was published instead. Weird. At least this proves I am human right?

And this video is VERY different from the usual. Yesterday on the way home from the little big city (with my patient in the car) I videoed the fields going past.

I am thinking about how to take Take Ten with me when I travel

Hence the experiment.

Just imagine Take Ten from the window of an Uber in Melbourne or airplane going into land in Wellington or a ferry going across to Oakland. Or in a tree in New Zealand listening to the birds there. I will have to buy a good international plan for my phone, though. Better put saving for that on my list.

This Take Ten video was to show how flat and empty the landscape here in Central Illinois is.

I will do another one soon but there will be changes. (Eg I need to go much slower but yesterday my patient was impatient to get home).

If nothing else it is an experiment in a new concept. Taking Take Ten with me OFF the farm. Have a look. Ignore the text. I am not overly bothered at the mistake. Things happen when a person is tired.

Let me know your thoughts.

Mr Flowers was hiding out under cover all yesterday – he hates the rain.

Though he decided to eat the wild bird food instead of his own!

Today will be a good day to catch up with my life.

Today I am going to begin write my 2024 list. A decent bloody list for the first time this week.

Plus my objectives for this year. (This hiatus between the Holiday called Christmas and Roman New Year is the perfect time for reflection. Charlotte Rains Dixon (a long, long time Fellow of the Fellowship of the Farmy) wrote about this the other day. Definitely worth a read.

I hate New Year’s resolutions but love lists so I will write what I did well this year and then my GOALS for this coming year and QUANTIFY them so I can tick them off AND give each goal a realistic time line.

Realistic being the operative word!

Then I will print the whole damn list and stick it to the wall.

I am going to put some fun in there too! (I always do!).

I am always realistic about goal setting and I know I work better to deadlines.

But First.

I need to sit still for ten minutes, listen to the farm and have a think. And slow back down a little. Yesterday’s mistake was due to rushing.

More rain coming – sigh. And still warm and muddy.

But we have more light today!

Have a lovely day!

Celi.

  1. Oh, yes, it came. Really didn’t need any words. It put me in mind of our trips up to Wisconsin. It’s interesting when driving from the middle of Indiana over to Illinois and then north. It’s very hilly and heavily forested in southeastern Indiana (contrary to general belief) but things flatten out before we hit Illinois. Fields and fields of unidentified plants, corn, soybeans, etc. and very very flat. I enjoyed the ride.

    • I am glad you enjoyed it. I felt I was pushing the envelope a little but that there was potential here – something new – you know how I love to show the smallness of our lives – even if it is just the changes in the seasons.

  2. I lose my lists, or they get wet, or Tweety snatches them out of my clipboard. Best to keep a journal of what I have done and file it away from Tweety, rain, mold, mildew, rust, leaky roofs, silverfish, moths, roaches, and wobbly attic stairs.

New Year’s eve (on the Julian calendar, which is updated from the Gregorian calendar, as of 1752 in the US) is a good time to note past accomplishments and intentions, not resolutions, for the coming year.

Mr. Flowers speaks to my heart. And he’s tall enough to reach little-bird food. I don’t blame him for avoiding wind and rain. I would, too, like the cats do, but my chicken-ducks love the outdoors in all weather. Fortunately, it’s sunny all day today, and days are getting longer, with temps 40-60 degrees F here.

  3. There are a number of possibilities for the moving video concept I think. Lots of places you can take us, although the animals will always be my favorite.

Seems that Mr. Flowers needs to raise that amazing tail and learn to flip it over his head as an umbrella. Wouldn’t he be a smart bird strutting with his own cover. That would certainly deserve a Take Ten video!

      • I did not know that! And now I feel he has no excuse at all- self sufficiency should easily be within his reach. At least, as you noted in another comment, he is smart enough to take himself to the barn and lord over everyone else 😉

  4. I loved really enjoyed your take ten video, l thought it worked well with no sound.
    💖Mr Flowers, wise old bird.

  5. Thank you for posting my link! And yes, I am a long-time friend of the farmy. I think I’ve been here almost from the start. Then and now I am in awe of your energy and stamina. I don’t think you’ve aged or slowed down a bit.

And I love the idea of taking Take Ten on your travels.

    • You are welcome – every little share helps us get a well rounded education right?

And no – I have not aged – today is going to be pretty busy too! I am excited to try out our Take Ten on the travels!

  6. While you got-get rain, we got 2 or 3” of sticky snow. It was a pretty pasting on everything. Sunny now and melting.
In late November my trail camera caught a fox behind the house. Earlier in the week two were seen running around. This morning there were three! They were easy to see in the white snow. Small critters beware.

    • Oh wow! Foxes! I have a trail camera, but I think I need help setting it up. I never really got it to work and I’m sure that there’s something wandering about out here, well there will be right?

And soon it will be bastard mink time!

  7. Hi Miss C– Taking the easy way out this time… wordpress demanded a new password for me to comment & then said i had recently used it…so rejected. Anyway, re the Take Tens– they are fun and i look forward to them.  A 💡 moment– volunteer members of the Fellowship record 10 mins of their surroundings- not a personal thing, just nature.  Send to you, and then as you don’t have time or need a break, you could use one submitted?  For example– i bet we all would enjoy seeing Mad’s ducks.   Just an idea–  Happy New Year — stay strong & know we are all out here on your side!
