Me neither. I could write all kinds of shit on here and they would not know. In fact, this is a test! Testing! Waving my arms. Are you there family?

So, I was with my friend and we were cleaning up, making sure that there was no rubbish or trash on the ground. Just general cleaning of winter debris. Plastic from across the state flies straight across our fields in the winter and stops at our trees and buildings. There are no fences and very few wind breaks to stop trash before I gets here. Anyway, I had this handful of rubbish, and I walked to the trash can in the barn, and just tossed the trash in as I walked past. Shrieks and squawks erupted and out of the black bin flew a chook, a great red hen, screaming in high dudgeon. She ran off in a ruffled fury. Giving us a proper telling off over her shoulder. I looked into the rubbish bin and there were two eggs, warm eggs, sigh. It was one of those big deep black bins and newly emptied. What are they like!? I just never know where they will lay next.
The five year burn is complete. Now I sign all the forms and send them back to the proper departments. The ground had such a good soaking last night and it is lovely and warm so I expect these areas to be bright green with new growth shortly.

My co-worker and I walked into the hen house to throw in straw and a bag of leaves (I use the autumn leaves to line the laying boxes) and a squirrel leapt out of a food bowl and shot straight up the wall into the chook house ceiling. Huh. Lucky Boo did not see that, I said. It is only recently that I have spied a squirrel out here on the farm. So I guess now we know where he is getting his food!
Maybe they are building a squirrel nest in the big tree. I need to keep an eye out.

Weather was coming. We were getting warnings from the wind all afternoon and the willows are beginning to flower.

Good morning – the storms arrived and it is still raining and thundering and lightning this morning as the light rises into a new day. And just for you and The Tenners over at TKG Take Ten I sat up in the middle of the night and filmed the thunder and lightning through the trees. We were treated to hail and heavy rain too!
It is super hard to screen shot lightning from a video. It was dark and the lightning struck fast and so bright. Lighting up the whole sky.

To see the full video, and it is very dramatic considering yesterday’s video was ultra calm, I would love you to consider joining TKG Take Ten.
This one is for Jim.

After a day of help the grounds are starting to look ready for summer.

When I get back I think Quacker might be sitting on eggs so I am going to order two or three ducklings for her. Also a few turkeys and the chicks of course. Even if she is not sitting I can raise the ducklings under lights with the other chicks, and set them free when they are big enough. Company for Quacker.
That mail delivery day will be exciting! Just imagine that video.
Have a lovely morning!
See you this evening at 5pm Central Time at TKG Take Ten for the thunder and lightning vid.
Celi.

ROFL a chook and a squirrel! My stepmother reads the recipes on my blog. She uses the fish ones to cook for her Carmelite Nuns at Lanherne.
That is great. And cooking for Carmalite Nuns. That sounds like a book. I hoping to get a few hands up from family members who do read. But I am not holding my breath. I know my son used to look at the pictures – years ago!
Fingers crossed!
As far as family goes they do all follow my instagram, as they should as l follow all of there’s! Looking forward to dramatic video. Lovely pictures today. “Company for Quacker” what a lovely phrase to read. She’ll love it if you get some ducklings, what a good idea.
The eagles and hawks are hard on baby birds but I am choosing to hope for the best! Imprinting is something else I worry about. But it is worth a try!
Some of my family read my blog so I am somewhat careful. They seldom comment though. Perhaps they are stockers. That picture of the peacock (Mr. Flowers) on the truck is priceless. My dad would have loved it. Did you know it was read to a goat month??
A goat month Darlene?
Goat month? What does that mean?
It is Read to a Goat month set up by Carl Sandburg. More here: https://www.nps.gov/carl/learn/news/carl-sandburg-home-launches-read-to-a-goat-for-national-reading-month-in-march.htm I sent the info to my granddaughter who has two goats. I do hope she reads to them.
I know my family do you not read my blog and that’s fine, so many of my blogging friends do. One Christmas, I had several hundred of the many posts printed and bound by a Book Binder for them as a Christmas gift each. Whether or not, my son and daughter have even read them is a matter for conjecture.
Wow. I would not mind that is a gift to myself!! Though how did you choose?
As it happens, it was seemingly easy to make the choice. I did notice that a couple of other family members picked up the book at my sons on Christmas Day. Hopefully, in time, they will be read.
I kid you not. March is Read to Goats Month. https://www.nps.gov/carl/learn/news/carl-sandburg-home-launches-read-to-a-goat-for-national-reading-month-in-march.htm
It’s amazing what you can learn through our friends in the blogosphere. Thank you, Darlene.
Some of my family and friends read my blog but rarely comment. I find out that they read my post when they tell me that they made one of my recipes.
that is so funny!!
One daughter does and I wish she didn’t. A couple friends do as well and I would rather they wouldn’t. It sounds like some wild spring weather; I dislike hail! (especially when I’m outside) Do chickens normally hide their eggs in weird places?
Yes! Chickens lay all over the place – especially hidden places. And every time I find a nest and collect the eggs they go find a new place to lay! Except the chook house chickens – they lay in their boxes.
My brother reads my blog. Not all the time, but every so often I’ll get a FaceTime call and he’ll mention that he saw I was doing so-and-so. One of my older sisters gets it, but I don’t think she reads it often, or maybe just skims it. I’ll get an email if I’ve mentioned something about being unwell, or when we lost Mouse. One of my nephews gets it. We’re spread far and wide as a family, and I suppose it’s a way to stay in touch other than phone calls, and I’m not on FB.
I hoped my blog would keep my kids up to date. But delightfully most of them are too busy with their own lives!! Which is fine!
It is very cool that your farm gives you so much to write about and photograph. To answer your question … yes and no … some do read my blog sometimes and others never do! Even some of my best friends don’t subscribe so I just figure they aren’t interested in what I am passionate about. I like what you said about blogging in another post … “it’s a two-way street”! Many and many who could use a few followers just don’t get it and never reciprocate.
Denise that is so true. The conversations we have with our readers are literally 90% of why I am here. And I really need to spend more of my time visiting other bloggers too – your place for instance!
