At dawn. Probably figuring we were already awake anyway. And they were right. The combine harvesters began to strip our fields of the organic corn.

Organic or not it is still a monster machine.

I was not ready for him to start that early so the shots were taken on the fly.
Very soon – within a few hours – the wall of corn will be gone.

All the corn loaded into trucks and taken away.

This week’s walk-about will be very different!
Time to get out there!

early bird gets the corn!)
I bet the naughty pigs or in full lockdown today!
You are not wrong! No pigs wandering about today!
I’m sure the noise would frighten them sufficiently, but they are a bit too brave and naughty to chance it with that harvester.
plus it would frighten them in the wrong direction for sure.
Indeed!
I love the on the fly shots of the sun welcoming the harvest! Soon time to button things down for the season, adjustments to the remaining animals and look forward to fires in the stove.
what a depressing thought.
Wow Celi, speaking of the “wall of corn” & “soon be(ing) gone”… Was just looking back at the harvest photos from ‘a combine in my garden’ (2011) and thinking “I’ll bet you get some really wicked drifting there in the winter!”
yes. Though to get drifts there needs to be a barrier of some kind. And being so flat as often as not it blows straight past. We have not had a lot of snow in recent years. I am sure we are due a big one!
I had a lovely long drive yesterday – wonderful way to spend a warm, golden autumn day. I saw several combines in fields of corn, a very freshly manured field, a couple that had a soft short blush of green, and lots of gorgeous colored trees. Have you seen the comet A3 in the west just after sunset? I was hoping to see it but couldn’t stay out long enough. I don’t think it’ll be visible after this week.
I have not seen the comet. I think I have too much light to the north?
The comet is in the west after the sun is completely set. I haven’t seen it yet. It will get higher above the horizon as the days pass.
Spectacular!
Seeing the predawn harvesting makes me laugh. Everybody thinks country living is quiet and peaceful but this time of year the tractors and combines and spreaders and on and on are back and forth from before light to well after dark. I’ve gotten to where I can lay in bed and think – that’s a combine, or that’s a tractor pulling a spreader or that’s a grain truck!
Yes! It is so noisy this time of year. And there are so many vehicles clogging up my driveway!
It makes me feel a little sad to see the corn being taken. A sign that the season is coming to an end and winter follows. The barren cold dark. That’s depressing.
Great shots Celi … you can now tick the corn harvest box 😊
yes! Done and Dusty. 😀
