We go up above freezing today.

For about four hours. Then again tomorrow. Hopefully, the barn can thaw a little in this time. Then I will scoop and clean out and lay clean straw for a few hours.

It will be nice to be able to stay outside longer.

Here is the sunset from last night.
I have never seen a sunset like this.

It was very cold.
It felt like the sky was trying to tell me something.
Ok. I have no more words this morning.
I will get going and keep busy. Keeping busy is the best thing when you feel your mind slipping into the worries.
Take care.
Talk soon.

That’s an amazing sunset! It’s warmed up quite a bit here and now about 8ºC.
That is much more manageable.,we are close behind you!
I was too hot today 🤣
Well I sincerely hope there are no worrisome things about to pop up but that very red/orange column of waning sunlight is something I’ve never seen before. Let’s just say an atmospheric phenomena because of hmmm- ice crystals?? I do know that old adage “red sky at night, sailors delight”… “red sky in the morning, sailors warning” so that’s a positive right?
Definitely because of the freezing air. So let’s hope we don’t see more of them. I have had enough now!
I think it has to be more pronounced and seems more intense to you given that you were in the warmer southern hemisphere, thrust back into the cold and know that soon you will be warm again? That is a shock physically but mentally as well plus the responsibility you feel now with daughter is much different. Go easy on yourself C. All will be well.
That sky photo might have been a Light Pillar. It is caused by reflection off of many ice crystals in the sky or in certain types of clouds. Wikipedia has some good examples in images. Scroll down their page. Maybe some look like your photo. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Light_pillar
Jim, thank you. I was too lazy to research but my guess seems to be exactly what you are describing! I feel like that’s a win this morning 🙂
Yes. Very cold. In fact after I saw this I looked about for sundogs but none in sight. Thank you, Jim!
that is a very cool sunset. My devotional reading was about worry. A unique perspective….when we worry we rehearse our troubles and experience their hardship many times, instead of going through them once when they actually occur. Takes a lot of energy. Probably won’t stop me from doing it but it is a good way to slow the roll. Working in the freezing cold does the trick too ☺️🥶
That makes a lot of sense too. Often the worries do not come to pass. Though I like to have a back up plan rehearsed! Just in case. Thank you for a great comment.
Beautiful sunset! Red sky at night … sailor’s delight? Seems to have worked its magic for you. We are about to go back into the deep freeze with you. Do you know that when I sit at my sunroom window and look out over Lake Ontario I can look to the open water that goes right across the big lake to your part of the world? It is quite a view!
Oh my goodness! Imagine that!! We are linked (kind of) by water.
“Keeping busy is the best thing when you feel your mind slipping into the worries.” You are so right. I’ve been deep in the worries these past couple of days due to my partner’s medical scan coming up tomorrow. He has them every 6 months after having cancer treatment a few years ago.
As if the algorithm knew what I needed, Instagram suggested this little song to me yesterday. It’s called “worrying has never changed a thing” https://www.instagram.com/share/reel/BAZGv9p_tA
That is an unusual sunset! Fascinating to learn about light pillars from another commenter. And also the different sayings, I was brought up with “shepherd’s delight” rather than “sailor’s”. It must depend on which part of the world we come from.
yes. Tell that to the worry machine I call my brain! Good luck with the scan. Good news puts the end to worries.
Thank you. All was well.
That sunset picture…..Wow.
right?
We are plunging into the deep freeze in Colorado. The very depth of winter. Today we are climbing into the 50s…followed by below zero and highs in the teens. I hope this 🥶 Arctic Blast doesn’t meander eastward to you.
I believe it is on its way – we have minus 8 next week. Sigh.
Good morning Cecilia………Wow that photo was something. It does appear as though the sky was trying to tell you something. It is really cold here as well…..but I never complain about the cold, because living in AZ it is so darn hot in the summer that winter is a relief.
The Brits coined a famous phrase “keep calm and carry on” which is the perfect phrase in this world of ours where everyone seems to worry all the time.
Working hard is a great way to manage that worry though…you, my friend, have certainly figured that out.

Keeping busy and being active outside are very therapeutic. That sunset is incredible; I’ve never seen one like it either. Most are horizontal in appearance whereas this one is vertical!
We were heavily clouded over and it just got dark yesterday, no sunset to watch, here in north central Indiana. I’ve never seen a light pillar. Lots of sun dogs over the years. a strong double rainbow in the west at sunset once (one of the brightest I’ve ever seen and never in the west again). We had a curtain of dancing diamonds the other afternoon when it was snowing and the sun was out of the clouds.
The sunset sky feels like it’s saying rise up.
And starting Monday it’s going to be the Polar Express here with below zero temps!
A bit of a warmup coming here too, maybe a day and a half or so. I find it kind of dull and boring that I’m looking forward to finally prying two or three apple piles off the mats in the barn – they are frozen tight to the floor and I practically impaled myself on the shovel handle when I hit them. That’s how exciting my life is, hahaha.
It looks like a fiery sword, extraordinary. And here, we are battling 35°C/95°F and 90% humidity, and not much less at night. Too hot and wet to breathe.
