Every couple of weeks you will see me here

Popping over to see how you all are. Maybe scoop you up and drive you back to my new place for a cuppa.

My pictures are on another platform now. ⬇️

This is my latest post and another one coming out there tomorrow.

All my garden pictures are there. All current. In my Melbourne garden.

I am in the neighborhood often. Popping in here. To the archives. I still pay to keep the archives open even though my photo limit has been reached – there’s a lot of great content in here.

And I will keep writing here as often as I can.

Here is a post from the archives of my other platform. I am putting it in here because it has a crazy title. It is called My Grandmother’s Knickers. (I misspelt that initially when I was looking for this and wrote My Grandmothers Knockers in the search bar – yeah – don’t do that!)

So pop over when you can.

I would love to see you!

Or comment here – I will answer. I always do.

Today I have been thinking about questions and wondering if we are asking the right ones. In the garden, sustainability is practical, not theoretical: fewer questions, fewer inputs, and closer observation lead to healthier soil and happier plants and more reliable harvests.

Not taking as much from the earth – instead putting back as much as I can. Do you know what I mean?

I wrote nearly twenty questions in one essay, (coming out tomorrow) despite knowing that one well-formed question usually produces the most useful outcome. Ah well. I never was a rules follower.

Today’s writing questions how we can live gently on the earth: buying less, wasting less, paying attention to systems over time, and choosing practices that reduce strain on land, resources, and ourselves.

Mostly ourselves – give yourself a break..

Go HERE tomorrow to read that.

Lots of love!

Take care and talk soon.

  1. Oh my goodness, I lost track of you a few years ago! After stupid COVID and how life changed, I don’t know what happened but I stopped seeing your posts!

I’m so happy to rediscover you! Thank you for emailing!!

      • I’m well, thanks! We moved from FL after 35 years back home to OH, in the middle of the coldest winter in years! Anxiously awaiting spring and some warm weather!

Are you still on your farm? What has happened with all your animals? I need to go find all your posts and catch up!

        • I am helping out my daughter in Melbourne – I will probably be here for a year. The farm is smaller while I am away and John is getting some rest. I hope to wind it all back up when I get back! We lost TonTon but Boo is still going strong – on a diet – the fattie. Jude and Tima and Wai are looking forward to spring too!

  2. I do read your Substack posts in my email, but I rarely open Substack so that’s why you don’t see many comments from me. I love the farm updates.

On a personal note, my daughter is moving to the Melbourne area later this year so I will be making my way over there to visit her at some point.

  3. wow! Awesome – we can meet up for coffee if you have the time! Though I know what visits are like. Busy busy.
And if you feel like adding a few words without signing into substack – hit reply on the email – there are plenty of others who do that too. No worries!
