“There is a dusting of snow.” Our John said, as he brought me my coffee at 5.30 this morning. By 6 am I was out in the barn, feeding out. By 7.am I was standing in the yards, listening to the chomp of cows, feeling the calm, watching the light rise. Not a sun rise more of a gradual lightening of a heavy steel sky. A steaming of cold light.
There was just a dusting of snow frozen to the ground. The footsteps of the dogs and I, as we began our walk, were as loud as the world. The only sounds in the clear cold hush. Except for a bleating Mia. “Where’s mine? Where’s mine?”.
The birds woke and still there was no sun, only milky light. So they shuffled, quiet as we walked by.
Just a dusting of snow. A tickle without a laugh. A nod from the corner of winters eye.

Very evocative of that ‘certain kind’ of winter morning!
Hard to ignore.. thanks kathryn c
No snow here so it was lovely to share a few special moments with you – so beautifully written, thank you!
Tanya, Hi darling, you are welcome.. I just had a sneaky taste of the boozy fruit! YUM!!! c
Lovely!
Just a “dusting” of rain here, and that doesn’t go with the magic.
Misty rain?.. c
That dusting of snow is a beauty. Have a nice day.

Hope you are having a lovely day too Giovanna.. c
Blech! Had to get up early and found this stuff and then drive in it! It looks much better on the farm.
I would rather have snow than ice! I hate driving in ice, don’t you think Harold! c
What a gorgeous morning!
thank you tammy, it was.. c
A dusting of snow! To someone who lives in a city where it NEVER snows, that sounds so romantic. I love your second image with the snow on the trees.
just a wee bit of snow.. maybe we will get a bit more one of these days and I will show you! I used to live where it never snowed too. so it is still magical to me!! c
Brrr, great photos!

Well, here in Aotearoa this morning it is nothing but wet,wet and more wet – the ground is soggy ! And it is meant to be the start of summer – haa, my poor bees are so confused. Love your posts and your wicked kiwi humour . . .
Oh no your poor bees, stuck inside their hive, i hop you put something good on the tele for them!! c
“A tickle without laughter.” You have the gift, Girl! 😀 I’m curious…how did you meet your John? Did you write that story?
No I have not written that one yet, though it is kind of amusing, I must get onto that one! c
We got a light snow this morning, and I’m jealous that your snow looks so much prettier!

What a beautiful post, and what a pleasure to discover your blog. You have a poet’s eye for words and images, and how they go together.
Thank you, what a lovely thing to say.. I hope the rain clears up before christmas, i hear it is a bit soggy in good ol’ NZ. c
Great story and photography 🙂
