“There is a dusting of snow.” Our John said, as he brought me my coffee at 5.30 this morning. By 6 am I was out in the barn, feeding out. By 7.am I was standing in the yards, listening to the chomp of cows, feeling the calm, watching the light rise. Not a sun rise more of a gradual lightening of a heavy steel sky. A steaming of cold light.
There was just a dusting of snow frozen to the ground. The footsteps of the dogs and I, as we began our walk, were as loud as the world. The only sounds in the clear cold hush. Except for a bleating Mia. “Where’s mine? Where’s mine?”.
The birds woke and still there was no sun, only milky light. So they shuffled, quiet as we walked by.
Just a dusting of snow. A tickle without a laugh. A nod from the corner of winters eye.

Amazing shots Cecilia!
Thank you Ray, Hope you went somewhere nice this weekend.. to the beach maybe? c
Aaaahhh the silence of snow. We walked back from friends in the dark last night and all we could hear were our footsteps squeeking in the snow. A stunning expereince. Thanks C x
Oh that would have been so beautiful, I hope you have enough snow to ski! c
There’s LOADS 🙂 Lets hope it continues for the rest of the season!
You made me feel as if I were walking along with you! What a beautiful story and wonderful pictures. Thank you so much for sharing those moments with us. That took me back to when I was a child and we would have a heavy snow (I’m from the South so a “heavy” snow is just a few inches) and I was always amazed at how quiet it was.
Welcome! and that heavy quiet IS unforgettable isn’t it! c
This was so poetic… I could feel myself relax and let out a little sigh as I read and walked along with you.. The beautiful stillness… just lovely this morning!
This place has that kind of effect on me too! c
So beautiful, the words and the photos. I enjoy reading your blog so much Celi. I wish we had a dusting of snow in So. Cal. It would be very welcome.
Do you sometimes get snow up there?, i guess you have to be higher up!?.. c
Have a great Sunday Cecilia!
you too jed, the Hawks are on this evening so the sports glutton in the family will be glued to that! c
Hi Cecilia,
Absolutely love your latest blog and thanks for the images. The dusting of snow can really change the landscape. Some snow here in Sussex, UK would be great for those possessed with our cameras.
I hope you make some time on your farm to have a great Christmas.

Love your pics – thanks for sharing!
Thank you for dropping by!! c
gorgeous photographs, as usual. They even manage to make solidly frozen snow look romantic.
It was a very thin dusting of snow! c
What beautiful photos – your words and pictures have a way of painting a picture that have this effect on me…it makes me want to move out to the country. Not in a small ‘that’d be nice way’ either, in a very serious my-boyfriend-and-I-are-looking-at-property-way. However a dusting of snow will never happen in the part of Australia I live. Maybe I can swap red dust photos with you one day 🙂
I think that is a fantastic idea, red earth grows great potatoes! the simple life would be great for you.. c
Really? Great potatoes? Noted!
I am just dreading the snow lol. I love snow, and I love how it looks and it can be quite fun to play with.. but I am dreading it lol. But your photos just look amazing
John dreads it too, but i am still new here (5 years) so i am still at the excited “when is it going to snow?” stage. it is the thaw that is a muddy mess!! c
Just too beautiful for words C! i want to wrap this post up in a big hug.
🙂 Mandy
Thank you Mandy, some mornings are special! c
