On a car. He has a thing about old cars. So when a great weariness descends upon him…
.. he looks for a car with a nice flat boot (trunk) to lie upon.
The tire was nicely placed to rest his wee headie and serve as a wind break.
I am training the pigs to come when they are called (eventually, with supervision and an electric fence, they will be allowed out into a field) so I closed some gates and let them out into the barn, repeatedly calling them back to their own pen for a treat. So they could practice coming back IN. They came every time. Though evidently an onion is not a treat! They ran round and round like the hellions they are and every now and then would throw themselves into the straw for a roll about. Then as though by secret command, they would both freeze, listen intently to some inner whisper, then off they would go again. A pig at full gallop is impressive. How they don’t trip in those heels I have no idea!
Oh, and I asked the breeder about those ears and he clips the ears in place of tags. So each clip in their ear makes up some kind of code about age, breed and lineage, stuff like that. If pigs don’t have enough to do they will chew on each other so I can see a bright handy tag in an ear being a liability.
I watered the strawberries today and look what I found.
Almost time to buy some rum! Strawberry Daiquiri time is approaching!
Good morning. The days are moving along fast and the weeds are growing even faster. I pick three buckets of weeds a day for the hen house chickens and two buckets a day for the pigs so I guess it is time to get out there and start harvesting breakfast!
Have a lovely day.

And what a beautiful red strawberry it is, Celi. Here is my grandmother’s cocoa cake. Preheat oven to 350.There are no instructions (just amounts). I haven’t made it for quite a while. I’m guessing you sift, stir or whisk together the dry ingredients in a bowl: 1 and 1/2 cups flour, 1 cup sugar, 1 tsp soda, 1/2 tsp salt, 3 Tbsp cocoa. Make a well and pour in 6 Tbsp oil, 1 Tbsp vinegar, i Tbsp vanilla. The next instruction just says 1 cold cup of water, so I guess you throw that on, but I don’t know if you stir it in. Then you put the bowl in the oven and bake it for an hour. Good luck! It makes a moist cake. I’m surprised you don’t make your own hootch…
I look forward to making this one, i wonder whether it sticks to the sides of the bowl? I love how the old recipes had no methods.. everyone just knew!! Thank you so much, i will make it and let you know how it turns out! Maybe we can start a trend!! c
Mom says you need to stir in the water at the end — if you just pour it on, it makes a pudding with sauce rather than a cake.
Love, love, love your post about what the little piggies and Kupa the Peacock have been up to. Such silliness! What great energy you have on the farm! You and these lovely creatures are certainly therapeutic for not just the seniors you visit, but all of us who live vicariously through you. Hope you are having a lovely Mother’s Day weekend as well!
Being beautiful and well preened all the time can be exhausting 🙂 Laura
i bet it is warm for kupa on the boot!
I’m jealous of your strawberry, already! ……oh to have a longer growing season…..
Isn’t Kupa just the king of being regal – he looks so content 🙂
And that strawberry – never have I seen one so fresh and ripe – well done my friend 😀
Cheers

Your blog was highly recommended by my friend Sara, thecrazysheeplady over at Punkin’s Patch in Kentucky…so here I am. Live on a farm in Western New York and we are very interested in organic gardening and taking good care of our animals. I too, write everyday and have done so for over 4 years. Love the people I have met this way. We have good friends from NZ…their daughter came to Purdue to get her degree in Veterinary Medicine and is still in this country. They visit her often. I will be back!
I popped over to your site and wow, lovely horses in a gorgeous area, lovely pages, thank you for dropping in Lori and welcome! c
I found your blog through the crazy sheep lady — and I love it!! I’m at http://aspenmeadows.blogspot.com/ for my ranchy blog and at the site linked to my address for poetry.

Wow, already the 1st strawberries? I’ve only seen the 1st blossom today, on our only strawberry plant (no idea where that came from, but we won’t complain).
Kupa makes a nice ornament for the old car. It sounds like the roosters are keeping him quite busy.
Hi Celi! Those photographs are so beautiful 🙂 And that strawberry is sheer perfection
How is the pig ear-clipping done? Seems like it hurts plenty.
Your pigs have so much personality! Actually, all your animals do – look at Kupa! I actually had one strawberry daiquiri too many last week and just seeing the photo of that gorgeous strawb has given me a wee headache.. 😉
And I was just going to ask you about the ear clippings. Hooray for the rum! hehehe t
