On a car. He has a thing about old cars. So when a great weariness descends upon him…
.. he looks for a car with a nice flat boot (trunk) to lie upon.
The tire was nicely placed to rest his wee headie and serve as a wind break.
I am training the pigs to come when they are called (eventually, with supervision and an electric fence, they will be allowed out into a field) so I closed some gates and let them out into the barn, repeatedly calling them back to their own pen for a treat. So they could practice coming back IN. They came every time. Though evidently an onion is not a treat! They ran round and round like the hellions they are and every now and then would throw themselves into the straw for a roll about. Then as though by secret command, they would both freeze, listen intently to some inner whisper, then off they would go again. A pig at full gallop is impressive. How they don’t trip in those heels I have no idea!
Oh, and I asked the breeder about those ears and he clips the ears in place of tags. So each clip in their ear makes up some kind of code about age, breed and lineage, stuff like that. If pigs don’t have enough to do they will chew on each other so I can see a bright handy tag in an ear being a liability.
I watered the strawberries today and look what I found.
Almost time to buy some rum! Strawberry Daiquiri time is approaching!
Good morning. The days are moving along fast and the weeds are growing even faster. I pick three buckets of weeds a day for the hen house chickens and two buckets a day for the pigs so I guess it is time to get out there and start harvesting breakfast!
Have a lovely day.

That strawberry looks delicious! We should get out and pick some this year. You can’t beat fresh strawberries. 🙂
I love the photo of your pig! And your strawberry is lovely. That sure sounds like a lot of weeks. Your days must be so busy but rewarding. xx
I remember learning somewhere that pigs are pretty high on the intelligence scale. Seems to me the claim was that they were in with the horses and bright dogs. So one doesn’t want bored pigs.
Lo and behold, I just checked on the internet: at Animal Facts http://www.veganpeace.com/animal_facts/Pigs.htm “Pigs are very intelligent and learn quickly. They pick up tricks faster than dogs. Pigs rank #4 in animal intelligence behind chimpanzees, dolphins and elephants. Piglets learn their names by two to three weeks of age and respond when called.”
In case you plan to host the Farm Animal Olympics, a pig can run a 7 minute mile. Keeping them in training would certainly curtail boredom, but your “To Do List” has no more room.
7 minute mile! oh dear, i don’t want to test that! c
Lots of life there on the farmy. I wonder what kind of silk purse could be made out of those frilly ears! Kupa must enjoy the warmth of the car boot. Strawberry picture won’t load – it’s a slow internet day today I guess, but I can imagine the delight.
I have the same trouble with many sites now, the pics are just not there, but my internet is very slow too.. Have a lovely mothering day! c
What a darling little strawberry!
Wonderful photos and thoughts for the day, Celi. I enjoy your Good Morning’s even as my day is about to close. You and Kupa definitely came to mind today! We were driving on a major street and passed a very noble peacock just walking along the median with great intention! It wasn’t far from the Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanical Gardens (Arcadia, CA) and not altogether too unusual, but it was enough distance that being out on his own I had to wonder where he was going! If possible, I would have loved to have taken a picture. You and Kupa leaped to my mind! 🙂 I don’t think Mother’s Day is particularly set apart in May in NZ, but you’re a two-continent Mama, so I hope it is a lovely day, Celi. And for all your animal mamas, too! Debra
That must have been an incongruous sight indeed.. i hope he looked both ways!! c
Goodmorning! When I die, I want to be reincarnated as one of your farm animals and live the good life. Long rests, great food and good care. LOL I am also loving that strawberry picture and I do see a picture of strawberry daiquiris in the near future..
Oh how much I love Kupa!
Have a nice Mother’s Day Celi. Enjoy the day and leave the weeds for tomorrow.
Clever piggies! And maybe the boot is nice and warm for Kupa to lie on?!
I think Kupa has the good sense to find something warm under the sun to toast on.. and there is a little color coordination going on there as well:)
Once they learn to come, maybe you can teach them to heard sheep! Love the piggy pic.
I wonder what Kupa is dreaming of on that nice warm car? (He’s certainly intent.) Almost a Cinderfella moment.
