Daisy the Watched Kettle

First we have to admire Charlotte who is posing in her swimming  pool.  l did not tell her that she wooshed all the water out already! The hose is on its way, little Shush.

I call them the Shush Sisters because that is what I call TO them when I feed them. You will remember that every animal has their own call so that if they get out they will come back to me when called.  That is the theory and it has worked so far.  The little pigs are Shush Shush in a sing sing voice. The Big Pigs are Sooee.  Coming when called is Lesson 1.

Daisy needs all her rest. Her due date on my calender is tomorrow.  She has been doing a lot of moaning and groaning. With her massive size her spindly legs must be getting tired.  She grazes slowly, walking like a tentative elephant, every foot planted carefully on the ground and tested for weight before moving  her body forward!

Mrs Cardinal was on a smoko break.  There are three eggs.

The milking parlour waits.  And so do we.

Wish my legs really were that long, chores would be done in half the time.

Stand on a crack,

you marry a rat,

but what if he stands in your shadow.

Good morning. The moon was so bright last night that I did not even need my torch when I went to check Daisy. She completely refused to go into the home paddock by the barn  for the night so Ton and I had to tromp out into the field a few times. Nothing to see though. Other than the moonlight.

I was going to show you a few shots of the new out-door playground for the big pigs.      But it  looks most un-palace like through a lens.  We still have some work to do. Then I will get the neighbours and we will make a strategy for moving the  pigs in there.  That will be fun!

I see another stunning day unfolding outside.  I need to get way ahead of myself today as we will be baling hay late this afternoon.  A crock pot day.  I put whole onions in a greased crock pot the other day and let them cook on low for a few hours and then drizzled a tiny bit of honey on top for the last hour. They were melt in your mouth divine!

You all have a lovely day too. I really hope you do.

  1. Wonderful set of shots today, Celi. Knowing you, there’ll be little sleep for you until Daisy delivers. I hope tonight’s the night. She sounds so uncomfortable. I hope you get a chance to enjoy what looks like a beautiful day today, Celi.

    • Just a little oil in the base so they did not stick, it was an experiment really! I had them sitting in there with a couple of baking potatoes! really tasty! c

  4. That shadow picture is fabulous: I am so envious, because even my shadow has short fat knock-kneed legs!
Could you put a halter on a pig? Is the Codger home yet?

  5. How wonderful to get a peek at that little nest! Beautiful eggs! I do hope dear Daisy delivers soon and you can all exhale! It must be a little electric until then. Sounds like the day is going to be a good one, and I’m so glad to be able to visualize your wonderful home with all the corners alive and buzzing (thinking of the bees with that one!). 🙂 Debra

  6. Oh, this is so exciting! I can’t wait to meet the new resident 🙂
I wish I have those long legs, but not for chores, for a beautiful skirt or a pair of tight jeans 😉

  7. Daisy is so pretty, I am eager to see how adorable her little one will be! This is such a gorgeous blog. 8. I love your description of Daisy: a tentative elephant 🙂 I do not envy her. the days before you have a child are cumbersome indeed, and you have all that before you….I shall be holding my breath for that beautiful little cow, Celi.
A different call for each animal. I should do that for the children.

  9. I have to admit, I hold my breath when I open these pages lately, wondering what news there will be of Daisy. And I love your calls; I am going to try that with our two chicken coops. (Although to be honest, it also has me wondering what other animals we could add to the family…)

    • they say, and you will know this anyway, but they say if it is early it is a heifer, late is a bull or NOT! I have no idea what on time means! c
