The invisible pig party

Do you remember that episode of Roseanne? The sitcom. Or was it Rozanne? Years ago, when she appeared in that kitchen door looking like an absolute fright, hair all everywhere and says to John Goodman. “Do you think I’m purty?” What could he say. Daisy is way too young to have seen that but she is thinking it!

Yes Daisy. You are beautiful.

We bottled the last of the pear cider last night and it is good. Evidently the secret to good hard cider is to forget that you have it, then forget to bottle it.

We are reusing Corona bottles.  We crushed the pears back in October.  You can see how we did it here

There is always a little left at the bottom of the flagon. So I mixed this with water.

And took it out to the big pigs. The little ones were deemed too young. They scoffed it, before I could even focus the camera,  then tottered back under the trailer for another wee sleep.   It was a short invisible party.

We don’t often get a picture of The Big Dog.  He seems to have a new lease on life with all the raw milk he is drinking.  The swelling from his  arthritis is visibly reduced and he is much bouncier, even in this incessant heat.

Have a lovely day.

What was happening on this day a year ago. Making cream cheese and chatting about living a sustainable life in the city.

  1. Sounds spot on – pear cider, how refreshing! I am hoping to learn about homebrewing but when you live in a two room apartment, I think it might prove a bit tricky…

  2. So, the cider is better this time? I remember how disappointed everyone (John) was with the last batch…We’ve got a grand total of three pears on the tree this year (see today’s post 😉 ), so nothing so ambititious ’round here!
The Little One is thriiled to pieces to see Big Dog this morning…maybe she thinks he looks like a dog/pony cross, or something?

  3. Daisy is beautiful! I don’t really like cider or perry but how cool to make your own and it looks lovely and clear too. I made it years ago at school but I’m pretty sure that yours will taste a lot better! 🙂

  4. Wonder whether my arthritic pains would also subside if I got hold of some raw milk? Huh? My first sighting of Big Dog – hello, do you love virtual pats? 🙂 !

  5. Haha I can imagine the cute lil piggies trying to get a sip from their parents so they can act all grown up too (have to wonder if I am still talking about the pigs now :P)
Big Dog is looking lovely, he is so cute!

  6. Morning Celi, a brilliant connection with Rosanne and Daisy, I can just hear her now, and see that sly smile on her face! And lovely to see Big Dog looking in such fine fettle – the power of a good diet, pat on the back for you me thinks.

  7. Most people round here make their own cider. We have helped many times. The worst bit is crawling about on hands and knees in November, picking up the apples (not off the trees, as I’d always thought), and the best bit is drinking it!

Lovely pics of Daisy and of Big Dog. I don’t think I’ve seen all of him before, and he looks so proud.
