The storm rolled in with a primordial presence.
That created a zing of excitement
TonTon literally hid for the entire afternoon. I mean he hid but had to have me in sight too. Such a confused dog.
But there were puddles for water play.
I had to start using the purse camera now as Camera gave up the ghost again.
Our John had a day off due to all the rain and so he put in a few of my new old gates, and we all worked in the barn and in the kitchen for the day. I found this gate in a junkyard. It cost me twenty dollars and is very heavy. Handmade and old.
Good morning. My son, his lovely lady and their dog leave this morning. It is hard to live so far from my grown children. They are scattered about the world. As am I. There you are though. We cannot change what is. But we can certainly work with it.
These have been lovely quiet fruitful days. And soon it will be quiet again. But I will have time to chat with you in the Comments Lounge today. I am determined to have a slow day.

On this day a year ago -I wrote a story about a day in Kumara on the West Coast of New Zealand when I was a child. This in one of my favourite stories. I loved reading it again too! I hope you do.

As someone who lives far away from all family members, I think it may get easier sometimes, but then once you see them again (all too briefly), it’s often harder to go back to that routine.. for me, at least! So lots of hugs today. xx
Thank you for the hugs, it is one of those things we just have to learn to live with .. c
Hope you had a wonderful time with your company…
WE had lovely family time.. tons of working together and relaxing together! c
Jealous, jealous of your rain. The wheat farmers may have more prayer power to keep the sun out until harvest is over but the rest of us are suffering in the smoke from at least 12 wildfires in the state. Sorry about your camera’s illness. Loved the doggy puddle dance and Ton Ton’s confusion.
TWELVE fires! how awful, that is terribly frightening.. c
Hugs of cheer for you, Celie, for missing the young. It’s a sign of the times that not just the young disperse all over the world, but the oldies (us) too!. I loved those pictures of the sky/storm. Give TonTon a reassuring hug from me.
Ton is such a baby when it comes to thunder, and we all wander about nowadays!! Isn’t it grand that we can! c
Rain glorious rain! What a joyous event. Prayers have been answered. So difficult to say good-bye to your children, and it never gets any easier. Virginia
No, it never does, and all parents know this feeling! morning virginia c
I really miss rain..when it rains after a long time the smell of the earth when the first raindrops hit it is one of my all time favorite smells..it is as if everything takes a deep refreshing breath
It sure would take a breath over there.. If I remember rightly you are in Jordan? I cannot imagine living with no rain at all. How do the rivers and wells stay full for you I wonder.. c
It does rain Cecilia but for a couple of months only and we mainly rely on underground water sources
Ah, well that makes sense.. i bet water is a resource you look after over there.. c
Nina Simone came on the radio as I was reading this. Something rending and gorgeous, uplifting and raw, though I didn’t catch the name. It went well with your images and the joyous ache of grown children being grown. Thanks for this, sweet lady. 🙂
Morning desi darling, it is both wonderful and sad having children all grown. Yours being still so little I am sure it is hard to imagine! I couldn’t at that stage! I love Nina Simone, when it comes to raw emotion she gives us that! c
Not so hard. My brother and sister are 11 and 12 years younger than me. I taught them to walk, read, write, tie their shoes; cheered at their victories, held their hands at their defeats, wept at my brother’s wedding, and held his children on the days they were born. My sister is almost 23 and still my baby, and a fantastic children’s librarian. It hurts a little to see them, all grown up,, but it’s also wonderful 🙂
awesome.. so your love of books is a family thing,. that is cool.. c
Yay! We had rain yesterday, and now it’s a clear and cool 70 degrees outside. Thanks, rain!
it is a lovely cool day here too, I get so much more done when it is cool! morning yummy! c
Great looking storm clouds! We had a thunderstorm in Muriwai last nig that woke us as it banged overhead, first in yonks
I love storms! c
Saw the Ton Ton picture on Twitter and danced a little rain dance! Those are seriously big skies, Celi!
Wonderful skies and today is clear and calm! morning kate.. c
Hooray for rain! I’m sorry your son has to go – I hope you’re able to keep in touch via skype? My parents left their home to move to a different country as young adults, and could only afford to ring home at Christmas. I can’t imagine what it must have been like back then…
Morning Celia, true i do remember the days of really expensive phone calls and now we have so many free options to keep in touch! Lucky us really! c
Amazing shot of TonTon! You really caught the moment! Brava!
Thank you, your last post was so beautiful, i did not have enough words for you.. c
Oh dear, Ton Ton knows you have magic powers. You can open doors and drive a car, so why can’t you stop the horrible thunder? Love the old gate. I also hate the thought of old things being destroyed. And, your posts are always wonderful but your joy of having your son, his lovely girl and Cai visiting came across so tangibly. Oh, and I’m glad it rained. Summer is so much better if you get a drop of rain now and again 🙂
rain is so special, everything just uncurls and sighs!! morning ella dee,.. c
Love the old gate … and the storm cloud looks amazing! =D
I love this gate too, and am thrilled that it finally found its home.. good morning and welcome! c
Quite the rain. We are far flung as well in terms of our family footsteps, and the kids are still with us. I wonder how we’ll manage when that changes.
You will cook like an angel when they visit, until they groan and say No More Ma! That is what I do!!! c
