They love to run with a piggie gallop.
Plus they really are kind of beautiful in a Miss Piggie kind of way.
I think you love my piggies and sheep as well.
I followed Sheila and Charlotte around for a bit yesterday trying to get a good shot of their eyes because I have decided that the reason they are so love-able is that they will look you in the eye, like a dog. Eye contact has a huge impact on the emotions. I could not get that exact shot. Sheila has to keep throwing her ears up out of her face so she can see me and Charlotte was not going to stand still for mood shots.
Funny pigs.
Good morning. Yesterday the Farmy Lounge of Comments was overflowing with a fantastic selection of literary works for me to read. Thank you so Much for all your suggestions. By last night here were fifty-two suggestions from all you stunning commenters and even a few more on the Facebook page. That should keep me going!
This is a stunning resource. So today I am going to quickly copy them all into the post for tomorrow (as a list – so you can print it). Then you can all share in my bounty.
This is a startling collection of books, authors and mini reviews. I am gobsmacked and very proud to call you my friends. Last night as I was thinking about this rich list of treasure books I felt like you had all given me a present, an early birthday present. So if you have any more suggestions for books to read on my holiday, pop them in today and I will add them to tomorrow’s post for all to read. It will just be the titles and authors.
This morning the Surrogate Milkers are going to do their first morning milking with chores. To date they have been coming in the evenings. So John will do his part and they will do theirs and we will meet afterwards and do any tweaking to the system that needs doing. Then they will all do it again tomorrow and I will take over for the weekend, so everyone will be fresh when I leave on Monday morning. I think we can all relax in the knowledge that the Farmy is in good hands.
Another really terrifying and exciting development is that the builders will be congregating here on Friday. They are thinking of breaking ground to begin the Coupe, The Matriarch’s granny flat, next week. They do need to pour the concrete while the weather is warm, so they can take advantage of any good weather during the winter to build. But I am sad that you and I will not be here to watch. And worry.
However, technology being what it is, we might still get a few pictures. Actually I might give the Kiwi Builder the little camera so he can keep us up to date!
Have a lovely, lovely day.

Hee hee, seems photographing piggies like as difficult as it is to photograph kitties.
How lovely for you to put the list together for everybody to see what’s good to read, thanks C.
Oh my goodness, I cannot believe that we will be away while the ground breaking work starts on the new building – I do hope the builder will keep us up to speed with the happenings.
🙂 Mandy xo
I do too, Remind me to take a shot of the space before they begin.. we can do a before and after! c
At the moment I am reading ‘Into the Land of Snows’ by Ellis Nelson, another blogger..
and I recommend a new book (and ebook) ‘Garden Meditation – Cultivating Peace’ by Timothy McKibben (a monk I have studied with)
happy holiday reading c 🙂
Garden Meditation sounds great, i need a bit of that.. c
A book that I still think about…The Outlander by Gil Adamson. Have a lovely day, Cecilia.
That is one book that is on my Twicers Bookcase, the books I have read twice and will read again.. haunting, quite brilliant.. good choice Sabra.. c
You know, I just realized that you and the Hubby are flying off on the same day – in the opposite directions! He’ll be in France for a week…and bring us home some lovely chocolate! 🙂
Love the pictures of Ton and the piggies…I’ll miss them while you’re away…
chocolate!!! c
I love your piggies too!
Morning Julie! c
Evening Cecilia!
It’s all looking good. You’ll be sad to go – but, excited to be going.
The yin and the yang.. morning roger.. c
I can’t believe how BIG the piggies are!!! They really grow fast, don’t they?! Ours are bigger than yours, but it seems like yours were just babies yesterday! Can’t wait to get the list of books! How wonderful to have recommendations from all! Thanks Celi!!! xo
They are suddenly looking very tall, I don’t think they will get as big as yours they are a smaller breed. – hopefully… fingers crossed! morning diane.. c
I do love your pigs! And your sheep. And Ton. And their mistress.
The Far Pavilions by M.M. Kaye. A magnificent story set in colonial India. It’s a tome, about 1200 pages.
Oh I love that one too! Yes. I must read that again, that would be a great plane book! c
I think I have read that one 3 or 4 times!
I do love those piggie personalities. The sheep too! My daughter in law has distinct voices for all her animals and now she’s got me doing it, so when you write in dialogue I hear theirs too!
I am glad, and not surprised, to learn this group contains so many passionate readers like me.
Since you asked, here are recent favorites fom my Kindle archives:
Remarkable Creatures by Tracy Chevalier; (Wonderful!!) Packing for Mars: The Curious Science of Life in the Void by Mary Roach; (Some parts are laugh-aloud and read-aloud funny…) In the Woods, by Tana French; (very good murder mystery set in Scotland.) The Swerve: How the World Became Modern, by Stephen Greenblatt; (Fascinating!) Making Supper Safe: One Man’s Quest to Learn the Truth About Food Safety, by Ben Hewitt; (Excellent and thought provoking, also, The Town That Food Saved, by Ben. We met him at a conference and he’s an interesting young man. He has a good blog, too.) The Bloodletter’s Daughter (A Novel of Old Bohemia) by Linda Lafferty. (I had never read anything about this region’s history, interesting.)
Now you, and we, will have a book list for life!!!
We will, this is going to be a very comprehensive list.. and for readers like us that is GOLD! thank you for these.. i will add them now! c
Piggie gallops! heehee….you have some very exciting things to look forward to!
I love the sunlight in your morning shot.
J
That low light is lovely isn’t it! morning jess.. c
Now that sounds like a plan… I would love to see the coup go up as well as our adventure to Zealand… Hope the Boks aren’t playing the All blacks whilst you there… don’t want anything to spoil your holiday…
Oh thrashing the Springboks would not ruin my holiday!!!… I think the coupe will rise slowly, first the foundations.. c
I do love your sheep and pigs and I agree about the eyes. They are so revealing. It sounds like you’re all set to leave the animals in the care of others. The house building in your absence would worry me too. I fret anytime workers are working on our home, including my husband. Shinglers just finished reshingling our house and garage yesterday. And that’s really nothing to fret about.
I think once they dig the hole and then pour the concrete, there will be a pause, hopefully by then i will be home.. and sometimes it is easier not to watch them trampling through the garden!! c
Ah I love your piggies and sheep too. Piggies seem to have an almost human air about them and yours are especially nice no doubt to your influence on them!
Yesterday they would run over and touch me with their snouts then gallop off again, just like dogs, checking in! c
I’ll miss you. All joy on your trip. HF
I will still be writing, we will morph into a travel blog for a few weeks! morning HF..c
Glad to hear that, but I won’t know about the denizens of the farmy. I love your animals. I feel like I know them! Looking forward to great info about NZ, though. Have a very safe trip and a very enjoyable one. HF
We will all miss them together.. that is for sure.. and imagine the reunion! c
Pies for everyone!
Morning, I was about to get my paper and pen to copy all the suggestions for
books. What a wonderful gift for all of us !! Thank you for taking the time to
make us a list. How long are we going to be in NZ.? I have a few butterflies
of excitement in my tummy for you…anticipation is such a fun part
of the journey !!
Morning Nanster, I get back to the farmy on Christmas Day. So it is a wee while.. hence the careful preparation. now I REALLY must begin to pack.. c
