Home, my other home

To get to my favourite beach on earth we must first take a tiny peek of my favourite view where I grew up.  Napier. New Zealand.beach-013

The fishing boats. beach-005

I rode past these boats on the way to school… beach-008

every day for years. The beach where I grew up was too glary for a good shot.  But it is still there. beach-019

So I drove out to Mahia. I have a superstition that I always have to look back to Napier when I am leaving. I don’t know why, but this is what you see when you look back at my home.  And where I am standing for this shot was what I was looking across the Bay TO, every day of growing up.  Amazing isn’t it. beach-025

It takes two hours to drive out is Mahunga Beach.  But hush, it is our secret. beach-032

It is simply the most beautiful beach in the world. beach-030

Enough said.beach-032

Good morning. Last night we ate pan fried freshly caught Gurnard, from this beach.   Today the bach will be empty so I am going to take a writing day, all to myself, a little present to myself, but not until I have walked as far as I can up this beach and back.  There are no motels, or hotels, or shops, or crowds here. Just a wee collection of beach houses,  and a few beachcombing New Zealanders . You would love it. beach-039

Maybe I will have a little swim. We will have to see.

Have a lovely day.

  1. I can see why you love this place so much C, it is breath taking. Congratulations on your 500th post that’s incredible, I only have 564 and I’ve been blogging since 2008! But if you count my original renovation blog, then I’d have 672 all together! Sigh, I have a lot of blogging to do!
I like the idea of looking back, sounds lovely. Now, I’m off to find out what Gurnard is.

    • As i suspected my pld hat is still here! a big straw hat! And i am already being harrassed about suntan lotion.. so i am all sorted! Morning sister! c

  2. Just beautiful Cinders….and writing your 500th post from the place you love more than anything…to use an overused word…again…A Maze Ing and wonderful for you!!

  3. I can’t imagine how come we have never met. Up on the cliffs is the bach we stayed at. You got to the beach down a ladder secured to the cliff… I carried the dog. We slathered on the coconut oil and lay on the black sands to bake… we would go to Nuhaka for ice-cream, and to Morere Hot Springs to soak the sunburn away.
    Bliss 🙂

      • If I said ‘Old Man’s Hat’ would you know what I mean?… we were the other side… you have it in your photos… on the left of picture.
I don’t know if we ever made it to Mahunga beach… given that we had our own small patch of paradise…
… I still carried the dog… Buffy… they sweetest little dog in the Universe…
One day I will take Rick to Mahia…

        • the most gorgeous part of that story is carrying the dog.. I have heard of old mans hat, it is up the back here somewhere but i don’t think i ever made it.. I will be back.. c

  4. This morning you opened the door to paradise and invited us in Celi. How serene, how calm, what an absolutely glorious beach. If where you grew up contributes to the person you are than all of your home (and this beach) are apart of you forever. V.
