Happy Easter – You knew I was going to do this didn’t you!

The Old Codger chose this years chickens. They are Leghorns. They will grow to be leggy white chooks who lay good white eggs. He thinks they are an excellent old breed for this area.

He had leghorns years and years ago. These are in a big tote in the basement with their warm light and water and food. There are twelve. Our new Easter Chicks.

So here you are Dale. They are all lovely strong wee birds.

Happy Easter.

Spring has come. We sowed the last of the little fields yesterday, the Salad Bar Field (which has perennial garlic, mint, lemon balm, parsley, chicory and chives coming up as well as the clovers and grasses) and the Corridor Paddock. Then last night we had a gentle rain. Perfect.

Good morning. Have a lovely, lovely day.

Love celi

PS. My essay this weekend over at The Parents Space is about a play therapy for a wee boy I was working with in England who had a stutter. 15 minutes of play a day. So simple and so magical. Please don’t feel compelled to go over, though of course I love you to read my writing, life is full of choices and this is just another one. This is where the writing is and it is a good discipline for me to write two pieces a week especially as it is forcing me to move this book (Potatoes are your Best Friend) out into the light. All smiles.

  1. Happy Easter – no, whoever would have guessed you’d feature cute chicks at this time? 🙂
If they are from the top drawer of Leghorns, they should be going, ‘Expensive, expensive!’ instead of ‘Cheep, cheep!’

  2. How perfect! 🙂 Lovely treat for me to see Easter Sunday morning. Happy Easter Celi to you and your family and all the farmy. 🙂

  3. Well I was surprised! They ARE adorable. The chicks, imean.
Enjoyed your experience with little Horace. Enjoyed isn’t the right word, though. Touching story. You have to wonder why people have children if they don’t want to bother with them. I wonder how he “turned out”.

  4. I popped over and read your piece on Parents’ Space. I was reminded of the boy whose parents were told he had Attention Deficit Disorder. Misunderstanding what that meant, the father thought he should give his son more attention. Miraculously the condition cured itself.
I love walking through the supermarket and hearing parents explaining things to their children or getting them to help.

  5. Lovely Easter chicks. Interestingly, over on this side of the Atlantic we get more excited about ‘lovely BROWN eggs’!

  6. I heard just recently that white chooks are becoming increasingly rare, because everyone thinks brown eggs are more healthy. Which is simply untrue, but shows the power of marketing eh? I’m thrilled Dale chose white chooks. Happy Easter to you all. 🙂
