My Wind Socks.

It was windy yesterday. Bendy tree windy.  Trouble standing up windy.

40 mph (65 kph) It was like living on a ridge in Wellington! You guys in Chicago must have had a wild day. After I took this shot I struggled back inside so Camera House could rest in safety then  came back out and picked up the rest of the washing that had blown into the back 40. It was dry though.

Thing One quietly, quietly took over The Big Dog’s bed in the back corner of the verndah. He made himself very small hoping that the dogs would not notice. But it was  calm spot in a wild wild day.

The wind was a Sou’wester so this corner was an oasis of calm too.. Just as I had imagined it would be. Don’t you love it when a plan comes together. Such a good plan – you could pin a tail on it and call it a weasel!

The unDaily view. What I should do is give you a close up of some of the corners of the Daily view. Maybe tomorrow. There is activity in Sophie’s Garden (all my Gardens have names) but you cannot see it from this distance.

There is talk of going  to the Bantam Swap today. Last time I went I came home with a peacock so as you can imagine there is some opposition.

Good morning.  Naughty peahens and Kupa did not even come out of the barn all day. It was way too windy, all the birds stayed in.  They chose to sit on the other side of the loft watching us build the new Pea Motel. (No camera in there yesterday though, too much bad dust). As you know barns are filled with all kinds of detritus (though I had another word for it after an hour of shifting it from one side to the other amidst panicked shouts of “Don’t throw out the good Stuff!”) It was a case of four steps back and one step forward but we are getting there. The pea hens are going to have a magnificent big home when we are finished.

Have a lovely day. If we do go to the fairgrounds market, I shall take camera house, but we are not staying long I told them,  there is a lot to do today.

PS. On this day last year I picked up the Easter Chickens and now they are big fat golden laying hens. They got a proper photo shoot too. The leghorns would be jealous!

Here are a few statistics I noticed. The Kitchen’s Garden has published 600 posts, has 971 followers and received 279,615 odd viewings. What I am delighted about is that almost everyone who has joined the fellowship of the farmy reads every day.  What a wonderful gift you are. Even if you are unable to comment you are there reading my words and following the movements of the animals every day. Surrounding us in your gentle care and smiles. Now, I am not telling you this to brag, because it is you who should feel proud. To follow a page daily like this is an investment of time that I take very seriously. I am very grateful to you all.

  1. Celi, I’m really looking forward to seeing the Kiwi Wind thingymebob up on the roof. Have you decided whether it is going on the Coupe or the barn yet? Ok the word I was looking for is weather vane 🙂

Kudos to you to write and photograph something original everyday- for nearly two years now! Some blogs I’ve come across start of all energetically with great promise and then fizzle out and disappear without a trace, most annoying 😦

You wouldn’t be looking for some ducks or geese would you? I can just imagine Daisy’s face when she finds a bird swimming on her water trough. Enjoy the rest of your weekend. Laura

    • the weather vane came witha promise to send it to me and it still has not arrived, i shall ask senior son if the postal service still works fromm NZ! c

  2. The day doesn’t start til I check in with Celi and The Farmy…well, not PROPERLY, anyway. 😉
We had Bendy Tree weather yesterday, too, but it’s calm this morning. It’ll be back before nightfall, though…So much to do, and so few hours to do it…

  3. Rather you than me searching for socks and bloomers far and wide. It is cold and breezy here, but the washing is drying.

I reckon your big barn is elastic the way you seem to be able to provide new pens and homes in it for all and sundry. I yearn to stroke Thing One on Big Dog’s bed.
Stay anchored to the ground and have a good day.

    • I must get another cover case thingy for this camera, one of those latex ones you recommended, I had one for the old camera when it started to play up… in fact i should get busy and order that right now with summer coming! but i have forgotton the name of it! c

  4. Those 40 mph winds. Yikes! We have had a stiff breeze since yesterday pm and I’m thankful and hope it’ll dry the ground some. I finally put in 2 50′ rows of peas but it was still a little wet. We’ve found this soil is a heavy clay and just doesn’t dry. Sorry the peahens got John’s baby veggies. Frustrating. We went out this morning and chased the chickens out of my new pea bed. Told Michael I thought they’d at least wait until they came up! 😀 Have a great day Celi!

  5. You must have some pretty heavy duty pegs on the farmy – a wind sock could travel for miles out there on the prairie!

  6. Oh I remember how exciting it was when you went to the Bantam Swap last year. I was bowled over when you came home with the Duke! And I remember the chicks last year too, peeking out of a box. How nice to be revisiting the seasons together.

  7. Gosh Celi, your wind makes me all nostalgic for England. I can’t even count the times we put the laundry out in Oxfordshire and then practically drove to Wiltshire to pick it up! Here in Vancouver we get some proper wind storms too but there are so many huge trees in the way that the wind gets pretty broken here at ground level. Although the Doug firs are so shallow rooted that it doesn’t take much to topple a 100ft giant. Love Thing One. He could be nicknamed Jellicle to reflect his practical nature.

  8. I love the look of the coupe… and see someone asking about the Kiwi thingy for the roof… what does it look like.?. did I miss a post or is my memory going…???

  9. Morning, c! I receive your updates by email teaser, and then just pop here for the full read. No biggie really, a joy more like. I’ll follow anything that makes me smile!

Any homegrown remedies for a sore throat? xx

    • actually yes, gargle with half an aspirin dissolved in warm honey water! My dads recipe! it acts as a topical mild anaesthetic, even just the honey water works well as a gargle too plus it smacks around any bad bacterias that are lurking.. hope that works for you.. must be all the dust settling! c

  10. We get Bendy tree weather every afternoon, but a huge storm is coming in from Alaska starting tomorrow…the NOAA people promise us 40- 60 m.p.h winds that swirl from the North West then to the SE all of it coming to us through gritty Utah. The temps will drop and possibly snow will fall, we shall see. Then it will gather strength and fly out here Tuesday night leaving us with normal, albeit colder weather on Wednesday. It is spring in the high mountain deserts of the Rocky Mountains, I dare say.
