Piggie heaven

Sheila was so excited to be out on a walk to her new pen that she literally ran rings around Charlotte and I as we slowly walked up the drive and through the gates and across the fields to the new Pig Palace.

Eating green grass, and laying in the dirt is piggie heaven.

Charlotte perked right up and promptly began to dig herself a proper hole to lie in.

After a while it began to rain in earnest, and as their shelter is still in its developmental stage, I escorted them back to the barn. No-one minded. As soon as I have got another wall up, hang a gate so we can cut through the yards and extended the roofline on their wee house  they can go out for the summer.

The rain yesterday was delightful.

The forsythia is coming out. I hope it holds some blooms until the bees arrive as it is a great favourite amongst the bees. The daffodils not so much.

Most of yesterday, between showers, I weeded the asparagus beds and began to lay the fresh straw on top in preparation for our crop.

A road closed sign has been erected at the end of our little dirt road. Hmm. That is not going to help me sell the asparagus is it. We will have to put our thinking caps on.

Good morning. Today will be more showers and wind. But like you I am not going to complain about the rain. The grass is growing fast now. The ditches are flowing, the creek is high and I can safely say that the top soil and the subsoil are now both met and wet, letting the rain get deep into the earth where our tree roots are. Osmosis is a wonderful thing.

I have work to do finishing the asparagus beds and getting the hives ready for the new harem. The roofing for The Coupe comes tomorrow, then we will see some major changes!

I hope you have a lovely day too.

PS I was so sorry to hear of the bomb blast in Boston. Poor people. I really know very little about it and refuse to join the news media in making a meal of other peoples suffering. But sympathy needs to be expressed or it is a useless thought. Take care.

  1. Be honest, Celi. Did you think that those pigs would work their way into your heart as much as they have? They are quite the pair and that Sheila seems to be part dog and part pig, with a little bit of a mischievous child thrown in for good measure. Too cute.
We had our rain overnight, the day being rather dry. More rain is coming, along with cool temps but I’d rather this than last year’s drought. Looking forward to the bees’ arrival. I know you’ve missed them. Have a great Wednesday, Celi!

    • You are absolutely right and especially sheila, I love this shot of her, such a naughty girl.. cooler is making me tired but you and i will not be complaining about the rain, thats for sure!!

  2. Didn’t they close the road last year, too? The piggies do look happy, and Charlotte does look a bit rounder in her girlish figure.

  3. All that wonderful yellow in the Farmy pics 🙂 I like the way you recognised the bomb blast in Boston. I need to do similar because of coincidental content of a WIP post.
