Piggie heaven

Sheila was so excited to be out on a walk to her new pen that she literally ran rings around Charlotte and I as we slowly walked up the drive and through the gates and across the fields to the new Pig Palace.

Eating green grass, and laying in the dirt is piggie heaven.

Charlotte perked right up and promptly began to dig herself a proper hole to lie in.

After a while it began to rain in earnest, and as their shelter is still in its developmental stage, I escorted them back to the barn. No-one minded. As soon as I have got another wall up, hang a gate so we can cut through the yards and extended the roofline on their wee house  they can go out for the summer.

The rain yesterday was delightful.

The forsythia is coming out. I hope it holds some blooms until the bees arrive as it is a great favourite amongst the bees. The daffodils not so much.

Most of yesterday, between showers, I weeded the asparagus beds and began to lay the fresh straw on top in preparation for our crop.

A road closed sign has been erected at the end of our little dirt road. Hmm. That is not going to help me sell the asparagus is it. We will have to put our thinking caps on.

Good morning. Today will be more showers and wind. But like you I am not going to complain about the rain. The grass is growing fast now. The ditches are flowing, the creek is high and I can safely say that the top soil and the subsoil are now both met and wet, letting the rain get deep into the earth where our tree roots are. Osmosis is a wonderful thing.

I have work to do finishing the asparagus beds and getting the hives ready for the new harem. The roofing for The Coupe comes tomorrow, then we will see some major changes!

I hope you have a lovely day too.

PS I was so sorry to hear of the bomb blast in Boston. Poor people. I really know very little about it and refuse to join the news media in making a meal of other peoples suffering. But sympathy needs to be expressed or it is a useless thought. Take care.

  1. hi celia! i swear that charlotte and sheila are smiling in those photos! glad that you got some rain. it is supposedly heading my way and we sure need it! joyce ps…can’t wait to see the roof!

  2. A day in never quite right until I have read your post about the farmy and all the lovely animals… sort of like starting the day with a good breakfast!!!

  3. I’m always so impressed at how happy your dear, sweet animals look; Charlotte is beaming in the first shot, although there is a bit of menace in those eyes too (menace might be too strong a word, in Hungarian it’s hunszut which is more playful than menacing).
I was shocked and horrified to hear of Boston, I can’t imagine the motivation to do such a horrid thing; at least it always brings out the best in people in rescue and aid, which is opposite to what the terrorists would want.

  4. Looks like those precious piggies have a fabulous summer home! So nice that we can all move outside, isn’t it? xo

  5. The girls are looking good, as is everything on the farmy. I hope the wisteria has a profusion of blooms for your new bees.
    Your blog is a delight!

  6. Good morning Celi well the road must need fixing really bad do they have a farmers market that you can;( OK) my keyboard is acting up so please forgive the weirdness of this reply take your produce to ? Missy says Good morning Celi. the farmy is looking great the animals are looking healthy and if the people that are doing the roads are choosing to cause you problems with sales that is a crime that can be acted upon. SAINTS (off to fence around taters) still aint butchered that hog

  7. Oh No.. they can’t be preparing to dig up the road they spent all last summer repairing – can they? Nice new sheepy header photo 🙂 Wow. those are large asparagus beds. Laura

      • Why not complain to the powers that be? I’m sure you pay your taxes, so you are entitled to an ‘open’ road. Our own lane is in a state of dilapidation that is positively dangerous, but no-one would think of closing it: grin and bear it in first gear is the French way!

  8. I am in love with your fence! (Just slightly less than I am in love with Blue… and Big Dog :)). Seriously, your fence is my dream fence. It is natural, just about invisible, and effective. I read here about you putting up fences – you put up this fence yourself? I’m a DIY type and would love to do this – my wild dog needs a fence BAD.

    • John made these fences with old telegraph poles and deer fence, to keep the deer and coyotes out and Daisy is SUCH a leaner over-er of fences. The pigs are in hog panels but any dog worth its salt will jump those… morning lacey..c.

  9. We are also frantically finishing up our pig habitat in order to allow some scenery options for the grunts. They are still little yet, and we had a deluge yesterday that hampered our efforts. But hopefully this weekend will see more progress. The rain is nice, setting up a wonderful spring bloom. Can’t wait! Yay Spring! 🙂

  10. Wey hey for piggy freedom! It all looks great.

The Boston bombs are shocking – the mayhem caused to what should be a joyous event is incomprehensible. I’d been hoping we’d seen the end of such mindless terrorism.
