When the basement floods the drought is over. And in this region today there are lots of flooded basements, and flooded fields and minds flooded with possibilities now that it looks like we may have some water around for the summer.
The ducks will be floating in the fields soon … a sight that always makes me smile.
The washing is being hung in the verandah clothes line for the meantime. Although we are not forecast to have any more rain today, there is a bendy tree prediction for today. It looks like one of these towels is almost due for the rag bag! I love old towels so I use them right until they completely fall apart, then they go to the barn as udder rags.
Yesterday I spent most of the day mopping and scooping up water in the basement. One half of the area is serviced by the sump pump, but the other half slopes the wrong way of course. And this is my cellar and laundry of course. Ah well.
So I just keep mopping and scooping to keep the levels manageable. The water will keep leaking in for a while. I don’t mind. At least the floors will be super clean by the time we are finished.
Even though it is still miserable weather the bees are coming home tomorrow. So I will do the last bits of work on the hives. Then spend the rest of the day in and out of the basement.
On this day a year ago Meadow and Minty, seen above in the header with Mama and Mia, were one day old. These are very sweet shots so if you have a moment and feel like a smile, click on the link to the time machine that will take you back a year. Such cute little lambs.
Have a lovely day.

That is serious rain. How will the bees get on with that? I guess bees, like us, have to live with what they get. Hope the sun shines for you soon.
Yay Water!
Except that whole ‘flooded basement-thing’… 🙂
We take what we can get, eh?
Good morning Celi the daily view is looking great; it is so nice to see the green/.one good thing about a bendy tree dries the clothes faster 🙂 have a blessed day. mike
Miss C, great to see so much water on the farm. I looked on your time machine at the wee people; wow such cute lambs!
It’s either droughts or floods – a nice halfway point would be nice! Having said that, I’m glad the drought is over! 🙂
Mark Twain was right when he said, “everyone talks about the weather but nobody does anything about it!”
Wow – that seems like a quick year!
Great news about the rain, not so great to have to bale out. There’s a lot of truth in the old saying It never rains but it pours!
Enjoy your day.
Vx
Yay for the drought being over but not so much with the extra mopping and scooping it brings.
have a super weekend C.
🙂 Mandy xo
you know all about the nastiness of water damage too, but thankfully none of this will reach my kitchen..have a lovely weekend yourself mandy.. c
Gosh, I hope you are right Celi!!! And I hope the drought is officially over here too!!! All fingers and toes crossed!!! I’m excited about your bees! One of our hives did not make it this first year, but the other is thriving. So we will get a new queen the end of this month and take 3 frames from our strong hive and put them in a hive with our new queen, and hopefully it will become a strong hive too.
We are so looking forward to eating our own honey this year!!! xo
awwwww…..you tend to forget how cute and small they were! glad you got lots of rain! i bet things will just shoot out of the ground now. your rain should be here this afternoon. we sure need it too! i have a thing for old towels too. my good ones are untouched and the ones i use are tattered!
Yes, the drought is officially over. We do have ducks floating in our backyard. 🙂 There’s a mama and papa duck that come every year. This year, they have quite the puddle to swim in! Hope your basement clean-up is done…we were doing the same. Amazing how much water came down. Then we woke up to snow this a.m. Still…not putting the coat on. 😉 Have a wonderful weekend and good luck with the bees.
Perhaps you can lay a trail of breadcrumbs for the ducks – straight into the kitchen 😉
I was smiling yesterday 😀 see? as I looked at the weather report and thinking maybe your drought was over. We’re supposed to have some rain today but it’s slow getting here. It’s greening up by leaps and bounds now! BEA-U-TI-FUL! Enjoying our 1st Spring on the farm! Have a great day Celi!
Great to look back and see your babies there! They are exceptionally sweet.
