When the basement floods the drought is over. And in this region today there are lots of flooded basements, and flooded fields and minds flooded with possibilities now that it looks like we may have some water around for the summer.
The ducks will be floating in the fields soon … a sight that always makes me smile.
The washing is being hung in the verandah clothes line for the meantime. Although we are not forecast to have any more rain today, there is a bendy tree prediction for today. It looks like one of these towels is almost due for the rag bag! I love old towels so I use them right until they completely fall apart, then they go to the barn as udder rags.
Yesterday I spent most of the day mopping and scooping up water in the basement. One half of the area is serviced by the sump pump, but the other half slopes the wrong way of course. And this is my cellar and laundry of course. Ah well.
So I just keep mopping and scooping to keep the levels manageable. The water will keep leaking in for a while. I don’t mind. At least the floors will be super clean by the time we are finished.
Even though it is still miserable weather the bees are coming home tomorrow. So I will do the last bits of work on the hives. Then spend the rest of the day in and out of the basement.

‘It’s rainin’, it’s pourin’, the Old Man is snoring’! on both sides of the Pond. Your view = my view at the moment and no watering the garden for at least three days! We are luckier: no basements on Oz houses 🙂 ! And our 100 mm or so in the last 24 hours is supposed to drop down by tonight!! Can’t believe HOW green your grass is !
Oh and shall lift a glass of cold sauv blanc at lunch in your honour! Congratulations, Celi on going past the thousand mark! Had been watching the number all week and went right past it this morning!! Wonderful!!

It was nice to revisit the lambs a year ago. Could it have been a year? They sure grew up, so it must be true. Had to smile that the floor of the basement will be clean when this is all said and done. That’s our Miss C, always looking at the bright side. Have a great weekend.

Catching up… You’ve had quite the week!
Water in your basement is no small thing Celi. I have only experienced one flooded basement – 30 years ago when we lived on the prairie. Torrential rain and in a couple of hours our basement flooded almost to the ceiling. The Good husband had little time to rescue much. Without discussion he made the choice to save Christmas Decorations, precious memories collected over the years. Many of the decorations had hung on my parents Christmas tree. The right decision. Washer/dryer/furniture/books could be replaced. Keep dry. V.
