Good News – with Hope attached

It looks like there is more action around the troubled bee hive  than I thought there would be. (Here are two little old tractors waiting to go and live in the sand pit of two bright little boys.)

Anyway, the scene yesterday outside the struggling hive was very active. Many bees from both hives were out flying about taking toilet breaks, seeking water, sucking down their sugar water at a thirsty rate and rushing in and out of their respective doorways. Heartening for sure.

I pulled a huge pile of dead bees that were blocking the entrance to this hive so I am hoping that the live ones have been busy releasing their queen. Something has got this little team motivated.

This rather disturbing shot of The Duke of Kupa is through the chicken wire wall of his penthouse. By focussing on the bird, the wire seems to have been absorbed.

And he looks like he is morphing through the  wall. Quite spooky really.

Naughty Sheila in the pig palace. Do you see the white of her eye? Pigs love mud.

The chickens are still laying about eighteen eggs a day  and they are selling very well this year. The poor little leghorns in their big container in the basement were due to come out this last weekend, but are having to wait until I can lift things again, then I will assemble the separate run in the chook house for them.

I shall work on that today, though I did push my back a wee bit too far yesterday. There are so many things I cannot Not do, if you know what I mean.

Good morning to you all.  We have a rainy warm day today. Perfect.

Have a lovely day.

  1. Good Morning. Shelia is a real life vision of the saying “Happy as a pig in mud”. My dad has the full sized version of that red tractor on his farm. I’m pretty sure I have one just like yours in a tub in the garage. I miss the days when my kids put them to work in the dirt. Hope your bees make it. I love the product of their hard work and like to watch them at work, but I am not comfortable with handling them. That is an amazing photo of Kupa.

  2. What an amazing shot of Kupa…spooky indeed, but very cool. Thrilled to hear that some bees have survived in that hive and I hope the queen is okay. We’ve had unusually warm followed by unusually cold weather this April. Normally we’d be in the 70’s every day, but we’ve had 80’s and then a freeze in a 24 hour period. Global whackadoo. Take care of that back!

  3. Morning C. Sending healing thoughts for your back….positive wishes for the bees…laughter about Shelia the mud puppy…and all other good things thru the airwaves today!! 🙂

  4. Hope you are feeling better! That flower is a perfect “good morning”
Very strange peacock shot – really looks like a contest prize winner to me. (is it watermarked? Should be watermarked!)
Warmed to see the bees out.
    Such lovely toys!

  5. That shot of Kupa is worth blowing up and framing! I would certainly put it on my wall – so mind blowing!! You sound busy even with your back – hope you are bending those knees gal! Busy here too although yesterday was spent trying to fix my ride on mower – thought it was flat battery so with all the wrong tools I managed to get it off and traipse around three places until I could buy one like it. Back home spent another hour trying to get it back on (again wrong tools) only to find the darn thing still won’t start! Whilst I love living on my own (plus animals) there are times it would be handy to have a man around! No idea what is wrong with it now – starter motor? and where would that be? and how do I get it off? ARGH

  6. Mostly excellent news, except for your poor back. I thought we told you NOT to overdo it! We just got back from fetching our new (to us: 6 years old) Citroen Xsara Picasso – sounds posh but it isn’t very. I was sad to see the little Kangoo go – Jock hated it but I loved it, though at 10 years old I suppose it was the right time.

    You look after yourself,
    love,
    ViV x

  7. Hi Celi & Co. I have spent the last week reading all of your archives. I’m thoroughly charmed with you and your farmy. I do hope your back behaves itself and mends quickly. I find that staying hydrated helps, along with gentle yoga stretches when you are NOT in pain to keep things moving. But the worst feeling is when you feel way better than on Day 1, but not to perfection, and you are just itching, itching, itching to get moving again! Self-control is not much fun at all. I hope to add bees to my backyard garden someday, so I’m watching your bee adventures with interest.

    • Good morning and welcome, how wonderful that you have been wandering through the archives.. I do feel much better and will start my yoga again tomorrow, it is very true about the hydration.. I really need to drink more water!
