Hairy MacLairy the Dorset ram is a gentle old soul. He is huge for a sheep but always approaches the smallest members of the farm tipping from his toes with nose outstretched. This shot was taken with the camera swinging from my finger tips, (I can not thank you often enough for this camera Bill ), trying to quickly capture Hairy finally meeting the new pup.
It all began when we took Sheila and Charlotte for a walk. And Blue the Mouth decided to be brave and came into the Daisy Mistress paddock with us.
The pigs were thrilled to be out and thanked me with their mouths full of good green clover.
Five weeks to go Char.
“I know honey, the long grass is making you look fatter. Its OK we all know that is not your best side.”
Then over came Hairy who has a special friendship with Sheila.
They had a little korero.
Ton attempted to eavesdrop but learnt nothing useful.
Until Hairy felt little tickle on his belly.
He stood very still while Blue took a tentative sniff.
Then the magic moment. If I had been able to capture Hairy’s eye in this frame it would have been a perfect shot. Sometimes I would love to have a photographer follow me around because Sheila was just out of the shot to the right and Ton to the left. Blue tucked into my legs for safety. Hairy was saying “I have heard about you and your little friend. The cuddlers. You both should be back on the porch, you are both way too little to be gadding about with the big animals.”
“Now, off you go, little ones, back to the verandah. The pair of you. I hope your kittens are hidden somewhere safe too little miss. No-one can find them at all today. Miss C is worried but I think you have just hidden them.”
Later I had this idea that if I let the pea fowl out of the Peacock Penthouse in the late evening maybe they would not go too far and at dusk they would go back into their penthouse and all would be well. We just could not bear having them locked up any longer.
OK, I was wrong. Pania and Tui (who like their tea black and strong by the way) took off, their naughty little beak noses aimed straight for the vegetable gardens.
The Duke of Kupa headed for the chook house to visit the old girls.
and everybody was shocked, except for Kupa.
All I could manage was shutting them into the barn last night.
John, who is head gardener is not impressed and today I need to entice them back into the penthouse again. Surrounded in green to nibble on, they headed straight for the lettuce patch which is almost ready to harvest. Sigh. Birdbrains.
Good morning. The weeping mulberries are planted and will be labelled today. (Arthur’s is bottom left Equus. Sam, the Bug tree is top right by Sophie’s garden.). And I have to say that Blue looks like a frog in that shot! Which reminds me the first frog has appeared in the Frog Garden. There was something else I was meaning to tell you but it has gone straight out of my airy head. I will tell you in the comments lounge when I remember.
Have a lovely day. We have another beautiful gardening day here. Overcast and cool.

I would love to hear the story of how Hairy got to the farmy !! family
He is such a perfect fit ! Have a delightful day !
Such a lovely walk….we raised up a Blue too….her name is Belle Starr and her job is to keep my 7 llamas away from the gates to the pastures….she adores Mr D , being his “truck dog” and is very cuddly with me. Her favorite thing is to swing on our adopted wild mustangs’ tails…. Her best friend is Jessie James the red Aussie male….together they keep everything in order on our little ranch. Belle is much more serious than Jessie about her work….! I love Blues! I’ll look forward to watching Blue the Mouth grow!
I can just imagine that dog swinging on a horses tail, it sounds like you have a wonderful place, I would love a Llama but I have such a tennsy amount of pasture.. sad.. ah well.. thank you so much for popping in for a chat! c
I love your creatures especially Hairy. He actually goes on tiptoe to be extra gentle! Just the fact that he loves Daisy is so extraordinary. And these photographs ! Well, you out-do yourself, Cecilia. The threesome especially. Wow.
We are so lucky that Hairy is .. well .. himself. have a lovely sunday.. c
Celi, Phil and I have just had such a lovely time looking through today’s post. It is like a Utopian Animal Farm where everyone in the collective has his place. Kupa looks resplendent, but it is Blue and Hairy that captured out hearts. Just love ever visit we hae here; you have a very special farmy.
Kate thank you and thank Phil too, that is such a wonderful thing to say, yesterday was a star of a day and today is a sleepy one.. I hope you had a grand weekend.. c
A beautiful day on The Farm. All’s right with the world. V.
Adorable pics, Celie!
What a lovely ram you have. He really seems to be the patriarch of your little farm…a kind and benevolent Father on the Kingly side. Kupa could be, he has the plumage of a King, but I think he is more into being a show horse than leading the kingdom.

A great way to start my Sunday afternoon, with a trip to the farm and glimpses, or full shots, of your darling animals.
your writing is exquisite
Lovely world.
The photos speak for themselves, especially the one of Blue the Mouth getting to know Hairy and the cat rubbing up against him too – absolutely delightful to see!
You have wasted no time in planting the mulberry trees …. it will be interesting to see them grow.
What a gorgeous farm and all adorable animals. the peacocks are just so beautiful!
A great post today, Celi, with a wonderful photo of Blue, Hairy, and Author. That Hairy is something. And 5 weeks for Charlotte? Already? I saw a video this morning of a 13 piglets feeding. One little guy was having a heck of a time getting a “spot at the table.” 13, though!! I wonder how many Charlotte will have…
Have a good evening!
Mercy I hope she does not have 13! Yup, June 17. they are known for their smaller litters so here is hoping! c
Fab set of shots. I would have a discussion with the peabrains and they would hear words which would convince them: ‘lettuce sin no more’. Waving an axe at them would sort-of get the idea across.
You and Mad Dog would get on, he suggested reading them recipes for Stuffed Peacock!.. c
Aw! Hairy looks so different “naked”!
he agrees.. c
