And then it rained…

Only hours before we were to gather to bale the hay. After I had turned it into its windrows and tested it for dryness.

It rained.

and rained.  A 30% chance of a stray thunderstorm had appeared on the radar yesterday morning, and then in our sky that afternoon.

And so I cleaned. When I get angry I clean. There is no point in getting angry at the sky. But nevertheless, I cleaned.

So today, hopefully, the the hay will start to dry again. Though today there is a also 40% chance of scattered showers. Then tomorrow it is fine. Then all next week there are storms forecast.  I hope our window has not closed.  The plan had been to get it all in yesterday afternoon. I think I am going to have a very clean and tidy house.

This morning my pig people come to help me with the piglets. John has gone to work, so I had better get busy.

Have a lovely day.

  1. Do send some of that rain our way to put out our fires, miss c. Love the spirits that stay alive through treasures passed down through the generations. I’ll do an anti-rain dance for you and the hay.

  2. Now I know why haymaking causes such anxiety to farmers! You are creative and are getting such good advice from the wonderful blog comments, so I’m going to see you finding a way and saving the hay. Meanwhile I love your tidy bedroom!

  3. Hope by now you have managed to stash and cover some of that ‘gold’, have had a warm shower, a good meal, a glass or three whilst doing a little cussing and that the rain does not keep you awake . . . ni-ni!

  4. The weather appears to be rainy in a lot of places we would rather it wasn’t, including here! Oh well, just like you we’re doing what we can. My eyes lit up as soon as I saw the quilt. My MIL made the G.O. and I one very similar. It is lined and so heavy. Like yours it’s on the spare bed for us to enjoy, but we put it away when we have visitors staying. How wonderful for you to have such multi-generational bed… after all your hay drama’s I would have been tempted to have a little lay down on it and take comfort from that. When you are working something out is the only time cleaning has any real appeal, and it’s nice after it’s done 🙂

  5. What a huge pain – hope it dries out soon, And that beautiful bedroom looks so clam and clean and that beautiful bedding from the family heirlooms is stunning.
