This is where I found my pears.
Small Town America is everywhere.
Not just on Route 66, though that is just down the road.
Such a beautiful little town.
It may look a little tattered and tired,
All the small towns around here look like this..
But first appearances can be deceptive, character comes in all guises,
and this little town is alive and well. And it has a great pear tree.
I am travelling to the big city today. I am taking a day off. You will never believe where I am going. Stand by for pictures.
Have a lovely day.
your friend, celi

Does it involve finding my twin? or visiting a special person who loves morels? Have such a happy day!
What gorgeous pictures…they just fill me with an odd longing…one of those nostalgias for something I’ve never really lived….
Yes, every small town possesses character and a story. You had to know I would love this photo essay given my affinity for Small Town Main Street USA and architecturally historic buildings. Can you identify this small town and tell us more about it?
Did you photograph the pear tree? Would love to see an image of that, too.
Such vibrant colours and lovely shaped buildings. A day off eh? You’re such a secretive lady!
Christine
Just like when I visit my Dad in his tiny Arkansas hill town, I want to come buy one of those little storefronts and start a business…I think I’d choose the light blue one with the arched detail 🙂
Have a great adventure – Hi to our Big City friends!
just waiting to find out just what you are doing in the BIG city…..
Can’t wait to hear of your day!!! Just know you will have a fabulous time and come back with tales to tell! xo
All rual towns have spots that look like this. We met a couple here on vacation from NZ 3 years ago and they were shocked to see so many places so run down. We have multi Billionaires to poorer than poor in America
oops rural
I love the little towns and old rusting gas stations. I’ve driven around the back roads myself looking for them 😉
I would guess you might be off to visit Chicago John…
I love the old store fronts, so much more character than today’s malls.
Ms Celi ~ how ironic ~ little ole Chatsworth! Fourty three years a few days ago is when my first husband brought his new Bride to our “new” home here which we shared for almost 22 years until the Lord chose Dale for His bouquet. When I see these pictures of Chatsworth now – it breaks my heart – 43 years ago it was a thriving little town! And today would be Dale’s 66th birthday. Lots of memories in that little ole town!
Plenty of good plant holders in photo no. 5! 😉
Have a ball while you are away. I look forward to the tales you will have to tell on your return,
Nice post and a realistic view of rural Midwest American towns. I am always tickled pink when we discover a cool antique shop along the way! The patina and texture of some of the old buildings make for interesting photography, as do the old, discarded farm implements and vehicles from days of long ago.
Lovely photographs, Celi, but why not a shot of the pair tree you mentioned? Or is it a small town secret? 😉 A day off? How lovely! We await your return.
