Small Town America: Not Just Route 66

This is where I found my pears.

Small Town America is everywhere.

little-town-005

Not just on Route 66, though that is just down the road.

Such a beautiful little town.

It may look a little tattered and tired,

All the small towns around here look like this..

But first appearances can be deceptive, character comes in all guises,

and this little town is alive and well. And it has a great pear tree.

I am travelling to the big city today. I am taking a day off. You will never believe where I am going. Stand by for pictures.

Have a lovely day.

  1. Those small old towns are alive with history. It is just to bad that their business aren’t still thriving like they once were. As children grow up and leave to find work elsewhere, the towns source of income and revenue goes with them. Then the older folks pass on as do the old towns.

  2. I am from one such small town. Went to all 12 years of school there, had my first boyfriend there, my first job, worked in my grandparents’ garden, picked cherries and pecans from our own trees. It was a lovely life but it doesn’t exist in that small town any longer so I have moved on and found a different lovely place.

  3. Your small town looks so much like my small town. It used to bustling when my in-laws were young newlyweds. Still was alive and well when my hubby was growing up. Had a movie theatre, drugstore with soda shop, department store, hardware store, bank and of course bar and restaurant and hotel! Now it just has a small cafe, bar, bank, tiny post office and the elevator and co-op.
We do have three churches!!! Used to be four.
We have a 45 min. drive to the big city and oh how our big city has grown. I love the high plains and the life we live out here. It’s peaceful, quiet, beautiful and the people are good hearted and rally around each other in times of need. And we eat really good too! 😀 Really enjoy your town photos!
