A Gentle Walkabout – Half way Round

The corn is drying, rattling in the breeze and glowing in the sunrise.

See those green feathers at the base of Kupa’s (pronounced Koopa) tail. They look like an unravelling scarf? Those are the beginnings of his new tail.

Daisy looks all grown up in this shot. Quite the elder. Her eyes seem just fine so hopefully she has escaped the pink eye nastiness.

Mama is Mama – solemn.

I left her in with Hairy MacLairy for only a little while. If she is pregnant all well and good but I don’t mind if she has the year off.

I know that Queenie Wineti’ s eye still looks a bit disquieting but the bluish disc of infection is shrinking.

Hairy MacLairy.  Peering out from under his house.

The broiler chickens are growing fast now, and eating so much grass I shifted them four times yesterday.

That jug is my favourite water jug, I bring it every time I work with the chickens.  It hangs off my hand just right and never feels heavy. The chickens drink a lot of water.

This is what I get when I hang out with the animals for too long – an overflowed water trough.

I was going to take a photo of the Daily View.. how could I have forgotton it, we did it every day all winter long!  But then I got busy and forgot again.  I will try today.

You all have a lovely day.

  1. Wonderful photos!!! Loved them all! I am a fun loving photographer. Not slightly professional in any way…but I do love to take photos! Especially of my flowers and different pies and breads I bake! 😀 If people are enjoying the photos…I say you are doing alright! Made fig apple jam today! So tasty!!! Used Cali figs this time. Usually I make it with Turkish figs…but I am trying to support the growers here in the States now. Apples came from my own trees. Have a great day! Look forward to checking in tomorrow. Unless I have to unload the soybeans. Hubby is out doing a test run. Sure would like to get them in the bins!
Sent you my salsa recipe! Hope you like it!

  2. I like half way round, it reminds me if the middle step, half way up or half way down… and leaves room for me. Maybe Daisy has that inward contemplation that supposedly accompanies pregnancy. The early morning corn image is striking. An advertising agency’s dream… it screams wholesome goodness 🙂

  3. Enjoyed the walk. I took a walk myself today and saw a rain barrel in someone’s yard. Do you have one, Celi? I meant to get one last year then forgot about it. Seems like a good idea.

    • Almost every down spout has a barrel under it.. they are just big plastic barrels.. it is a very good idea, especially for watering your pots, nothing beats rain water.. I will try and take a shot for you tomorrow, in fact there is one right by your Tree! c

  4. Love the gentle walkabout and shall be very happy to see the ‘daily view’ tomorrow or after: well, I did notice and I have missed it [selfish gal: just ’cause ‘my’ tree is stuck in the middle there 🙂 !] This is quite a ‘ladylike’ photo of Daisy and it is the first ever of my seeing a peacock’s feathers beginning to ‘sprout’ ~ what a colour!!

    • Yes your tree is there and doing very well, though it is blocked by the magnolia in the daily view, you will see it more as the leaves fall, I shall try and include it in a shot tomorrow.. hope you are getting well-er.. c

  5. My Farmer Friends harvested the corn outside our house today. All of a sudden we have a horizon. I can see the sun setting. The cars on River Road. Already I miss the gossiping. The whispering of secrets. The corn singing a lullaby at night. My Farmer Friends are happy though. No expensive breakdowns, and perfect sunny weather. V.

    • There is great deal of satisfaction in bringing a crop in in a timely fashion, and now you are free to SEE far once more.. Though it is interesting how quickly we get used to that cosy cut off feeling.. c

      • That’s for sure! Especially when you have acres and acres and acres of wheat and soybean fields to bring in…never mind all the work before, during, and after!!!! LOL 😉

  6. How interesting to see Kupa’s tail feathers just beginning to grow. You are so thoughtful, showing us little glimpses of things we might not know about. I’m learning so much from you. Those chickens – I can almost hear them growing from here! I love the jug. That’s my kind of jug exactly.
