Corn is down.. I can see for miles and miles!

With a sunrise like this we had to have a good day.

And we did.ace-morning-056

Because the men in their green machines, came and took the corn away.

Later we went out to play in the stripped field. After pausing in the long grass for ‘short legs’ to rest.ace-morning-072

And watching Egoli – his new hunting tactic is to sit at the bird’s tea table and ask them to fly into his mouth.ace-morning-066

The Big Dog and his new coat. ace-morning-057

He loves his coat. Once he is dressed for winter he always looks so much happier and gets a rather unnerving spring in his step.

I had a plan to FedEx some home grown  frozen meat out to my son’s house in California so I could cook it when I got there.  It is all about the food when my family gets together. But after checking into the cost of over-nighting one pasture raised lamb roast, one grass fed beef roast, 4 packages of milk fed bacon, 4 grass fed rib eye steaks and a  fat chicken – I decided that I would  throw the clothes out of the suitcase and check the chilli bin as baggage instead. Everything will be well wrapped. Luckily I have a big hand bag for a change of underwear, a little skirt, footless tights, a cardigan, ballet flats,  something pretty,  and my toothbrush. I will wear my jeans and my boots, jam a book on top and put a lipstick in my pocket. All good. Can you tell I have done this before? I have an aversion to luggage.

Lets hope the meat stays frozen!  That is the most important thing.

I hope you all have a lovely day.

  1. Life on the farmy seems so calm today, all the better to let you get ready for California.

Celi, your packing sounds just like my daughter Elly’s. She wears as many layers as possible travelling leaving the carry-on bag for laptop and everything else she needs.Do you talk to yourself aloud as you pack? She seems to do a running commentary as she sorts things out!

Have a wonderful time with family and enjoy the feasting!

  2. How’s that tactic been working out for Egoli? Big dog’s coat is stunning and he does look pleased with it. Does he have some arthritis going on that the coat helps with? Little Kit looks like he’s getting bigger but it’s amazing how Boo keeps an eye on him.

  3. Yes… eating away from home can be challenging. Great that you can bring real food with you. Although I’m sure you can find some good things in CA it’s never the same as when it comes from your own property or nearby. At least in Germany I’m not constantly worried about GMO’s but I did have some questionable food today. I have to work on being present and grateful for what is presented, and appreciate the company I’m in (like my mother-in-law who lived through WWII here- you didn’t think twice about where the food came as you were lucky to get anything). I have to keep my ideals in check.
Have fun in CA. x wt

  4. This made me smile. I’m a writer and I work from home. My husband travels 3-5 days/nights per week. I do the thinking part of my writing as I work in my yard and garden and with my dogs. I *might* speak to a neighbor during the day if our paths cross out in our yards. Often, my days are completely non-verbal. I rarely notice the quiet and never mind it. Except, now that I’ve been doing this for 10 years or so, I have noticed that my conversations skills are lagging. If I actually say anything, my words falter. Perhaps I should practice reading outloud everyday so my tongue remembers what to do…
