Mini apple pies in mason jar rings

Have you ever thought of using  preserving jar rings to create personal little pies? last-light-007

Mini apple pies adapted from here .  I found this idea on pinterest. (Join me there if you would like.  I post my favourite image from each farm day on my pinterest page, when I remember. and when I have one!)

To make your little pies just turn the lid rubber side down into the ring and grease well then proceed as usual. I used my usual butter pastry and a jar of apple-pie-apple from my cellar.  Perfick.

I was so intent on cooking and resting (and pinteresting) and getting my chores slowly done that the light went out on the day before I even got Camera House out.

But it was a good day. I did not need any pain relief all day.  The pain is down to a workable level.  And I had good strong help. A very good day.

I hope you all have a lovely day.

  1. Haven’t tried the Mason jar ring idea (you don’t get them here, it’s all Fowlers Vacola jars with clips to hold the lid on), but I have made meat pies in a teacup. You make a flat lid on the cup, and then when it’s cooked you turn it out for a perfect little dome. Steak & mushroom. Yum. Chicken, leek and mushroom. Yummer. I’m so happy to hear your tail is mending and that you have good help. I hope the Duke is holding out till his medication arrives, and not too miserable.

    • So when you preserve food you use the jars with clips? I love steak and mushroom! Kupa’s medicine has been shipped so I should be able to tend to him very shortly.. c

      • You take the clips off once the jar is cool and you can see the lids have sucked down, so you know there’s a vacuum inside. I have a tray of 15 big mangoes I picked up yesterday. I’m going to pressure can them in orange juice, for winter breakies. I’ll do a post about it, so you can see what they look like.

  2. I will dive into Pinterest some evenings and by the time I come up for air, it’s WAY past time to turn out the lights…but I will join your page anyway.

  3. How nice that you had good strong help and were able to take some time for yourself. It is good to have a break from the usual even when we love the usual. I am having a break this week from my good, but full on, job. What I love about time off from the usual is the time to think, time to plan on whatever scale one desires. The more mundane the chore the better as the mind has time to take flight. I plan on cleaning some windows later in the week, a vey dull chore indeed, who knows what grand plan may come from that!
I have never noticed the ladder to left of your house in the 2nd picture. What is it used for?

  4. Glad your regaining mobility. Feels good doesn’t it. I got better much quicker than I had anticipated and am pretty much back on track and grateful. I know you will be too.
I love these little mini pies and have seen them on pinterest. That’s a fun little arena. Though it sucks up time, there are always some great ideas. Hopped over and followed. Hard to keep up with it all!
These would be fun to throw in the freezer and pop in the oven over the winter.
    cheers ma dear…wt

    • I think that being good about the laying down and doing nothing! so the bone began to knit did the trick, I have a bad habit of trying to work through pain so i am grateful for all the good advice.. well on the way anyway.. c

  5. Umm your mini pies have me thinking ‘Mince Pies’ for Christmas!
So glad your posterior is felling much better – ever thought how many words can be used for the same thing? The one that gets me is how many words refer to the toilet LOL Of course I call it the Loo which confused my American friends for a while.
Freezing rain here early this morning, which is beautiful to look at, all the individual twigs on the trees twinkling in my porch lights. Not such fun to drive in though. Supposed to turn to just heavy rain the rest of the day – sigh, another day stuck indoors!

  6. hmmm.
    interesting.
i used to make crumpets in much the same fashion, ring on a griddle sans the rubber-lidded lid.
i’ll have to try your apple pie….would be perfect for a work treat for the crew….
