Mini apple pies in mason jar rings

Have you ever thought of using  preserving jar rings to create personal little pies? last-light-007

Mini apple pies adapted from here .  I found this idea on pinterest. (Join me there if you would like.  I post my favourite image from each farm day on my pinterest page, when I remember. and when I have one!)

To make your little pies just turn the lid rubber side down into the ring and grease well then proceed as usual. I used my usual butter pastry and a jar of apple-pie-apple from my cellar.  Perfick.

I was so intent on cooking and resting (and pinteresting) and getting my chores slowly done that the light went out on the day before I even got Camera House out.

But it was a good day. I did not need any pain relief all day.  The pain is down to a workable level.  And I had good strong help. A very good day.

I hope you all have a lovely day.

  1. Busy day today so I understand completely why you didn’t get out the camera! LOL What a great idea using canning jar rings for small hand pies! Perfect serving size! 🙂 I am making pies today too! I make pumpkin, squash, apple, blueberry, cherry, and mincemeat! Love to all and have a wonderful day of Thanksgiving!!!!!! One of my favorite holidays! Munching on a sausage biscuit and coffee!!! Mmmmm….got get my energy level up! 😉 I use my hubby’s grandma’s pie dishes that she used to feed the wheat threshing crews!!!! She was a really good baker! 🙂 She would love to know that I use her pie dishes! 😀
Ta ta!!!! See you soon! Muah!!!

  2. p.s. So very glad that you are feeling better! And even more glad that you have some help!!!! You so deserve it Celi! (((hugs))) Baby steps….every day will be one step further to a pain free tushie! 🙂

  3. What a grand idea! And so cute for the Thanksgiving table. So sorry to hear you haven’t been well. I hope you feel better soon Celi!! Wishing you and yours a beautiful Thanksgiving holiday.

  4. I’m so pleased you’re feeling better, and that the TT is helping.
I use old cat food tins (fancy feast – well washed!) as pie tins – they work as well as your lids I imagine 🙂
I love pinterest. There are so many clever people in the world. XO

  5. Dear Celi,
Will be on the road tomorrow. So wanted you to know that I am so happy you are much better. So enjoy your blog and the Farmy. Wishing you and your family Blessings and a Happy Thanksgiving.

  6. What a great way to make individual pies for everyone at the dinner table. You are so clever! Instead of pot pies, you have ring pies, lol. Also so glad that the Duke’s medicine came. You will have help to administer it, yes? They are very strong birds and do not like to be handled…..ask me how I know this, sometime. Do you know how old your farmhouse is? Also, I have been meaning to ask why you settled where you did. Somebody asked that of me yesterday. Always loved old houses and barns…..no cookie cutter sameness there. So relieved you are starting to feel better. Yea!

    • Gosh some big questions in there. I have caught the peacock before, it is all about being very fast and then straight under the arm. Kupa goes quite still the minute I have him. But this medicine goes in his feed so no need to traumatise them. The house is not that old maybe 70 or 80 years I think. The story of how I came to be here is way too long for a comment, there is a post somewhere i will find it for you.. c

      • Well, for heavens sake…..this is my post that I thought was missing. Why am I suddenly Annonymous? Sort of like being invisible. Glad you do not have to catch the Duke….that would make a cute video….but not for awhile until you are all better

  7. Glad you are feeling better. You mention a butter crust. I am having no luck with butter as I do not have a food processor. Do you use a food processor for your butter crust?

    • actually i do use a food processor but before that I used two knives, or a knife and fork. when you chill your butter, chill your metal bowl and utensils as well, then work very fast. don’t worry about getting the butter to a breadcrumb look, just get it all incorporated, drizzle the chilled water and pushed together to form the ball and back into the fridge to sit. When you roll it out fold it once then roll again and this sorts out any big bits of butter. speed and cold are the essence of a good pastry. .. did you get my recipe the other day?

    • I love how you can start a somewhat random collection then discover that you do have a certain style after all.. it is fun.. but major time waster, which is good when you are laid up.. c

      • I also love that I can find other women who like what I like – clothes that is – my ‘real’ friends HATE the way I dress (which is not at all like them… sigh)

        • thank goodness we are allowed to look and dream a bit.. I can never find the clothes I would like to wear, i am seriously thinking of taking up sewing but I cannot think inside out! c
