Sheila’s Christmas Trick

Most piggies can open a door and go out. That is not a problem.

Yes, many pigs can open doors to get out.  Maybe that is not too clever.Though Sheila’s smile of satisfaction is pretty sweet.

However Sheila has also worked out how to go back to the door, push the bolt about, get her nose into the crack of the door, muscle it back open and then make her way back IN.  Very clever I think.

I thought you were out in the yard Sheila?

Oh, woops, I did not see you there, miss c,  she says.  Well.. um..  I was outside in the yard -in the weak wintry sun  like you said and then I changed your mind and came back in.  It is cold out there miss c.

I love Sheila – my big fat pig.

It is a small trick but a good one.

Not like Daisy the deeply Un-benevolent milk cow who opens any gate that is held  with a hook latch  – so they have to be tied up with baling twine or I come out and find her in the barn corridor wreaking her own particular brand of mayhem. christmas-024

I hope you are having a lovely day, a lovely Christmas day.

  1. Good morning Celi! I love these conversations with the barnyard critters! What is owl saying this morning? Is he still looking mortified in his scarf and star? LOL Have a lovely, quiet day, my friend. I’m already enjoying the early morning hours here at the computer… doing what I love! I hope to see Daisy and Spirit later… that would make my day complete!

    • I really hope you do see your woodland friends, do you have foxes? i think i remember foxes.. Owl is somewhat mollified as he is surrounded in boxes and feeling very popular, he has set the star on a box of chocolates though as his head kept bobbling it OFF! Have a lovely day darling girl with your guides out there in the woods.. c

      • Yes we have foxes, but I haven’t seen signs of them in a couple of weeks. They come and go, they’ll be back in a month or two. I am happy that owl has found a role for himself guarding the gifts. Thank you, and yes! We are headed to the cabin, where I will spend time photographing whatever presents itself, and I may write a bit on my iPad or read an e-book. It’s a leisurely day!

    • I am going to design a kind of handle that can be manipulated by a snout so she can close it so it does not blow in the wind.. sheila and i will have to have a wee think.. c

  2. Happy Christmas Day to you my friend! On my second cup of tea and just browsing around the old pc before I set off to tend to my critters (and other peoples). A friend dropped off some presents yesterday and I got a lovely table lamp in the shape of a beautiful Cockerel! he will take pride of place on my kitchen table come the new year. Also got some pears from Harry & David (company) and I was thinking those I don’t eat fresh will be put in my favorite Pear and Custard tart!
Hope your day is everything you want it to me.
    Hugs Lyn

  3. Pigs, Sheila in particular is a very talented creature. Not only beautiful but clever as well. Can.t figure out why, when people want to say something unkind about someone else , they use pig or dog..both of which are beautiful animals. Anyone can call me a cow..I would be highly honoured.
happy Christmas to everyone.people, animals, trees and everything

    • Or stubborn as a mule! 🙂 Or gangly as a moose! And I used to get The Old Gray Mare, she ain’t what she used to be!!! LOL And I was only twelve!!! 😉 All three are very lovely creatures! Myself included!!!! Ha! 😀

  4. Pretty soon now, Daisy is going to figure out which string to pull. Then you’ll have to give up the slip-knot. After that she’ll do it the easy way and just chew through the twine …

  5. Just love that snout peeping past the door. What an unexpected treat seeing a post today. Enjoy your day, relax let somebody else spoil you for a change 🙂 Laura

  6. It won’t be long before you’ll have to resort to locks in order to keep these 2 Free Spirits where they belong. You don’t think they’ll learn how to use keys, do you? 🙂
Wishing you, Your John, and the Matriarch a very Merry Christmas!

  7. I just have to laugh every time you talk about Sheila and that you love your pig! That is exactly what Jack says about ALL of our pigs! And we have a ‘passel of pigs’ now, that’s for sure! Although I’m sure it’s not called a passel, but it’s not a herd either. Anyway, it’s hard not to fall in love with the pigs! Wishing you a ‘kicked back’ Christmas day my friend! xo

  8. Merry Christmas Cecilia and wishing a wonderful and healthy 2014 for you, your family and all your animals on the farmy.
