While I was out doing the rounds today

melting-day-025

Collecting left over food from the store and the pub, I even drove over to Route 66 to visit my favourite hairdresser, Sheila did her housework.  I had not realised until after I had fed everyone in the rain,  I went out in the almost dark around the side of the barn to shut her gate, I found that she had collected all the little bits of torn blanket from her bed and thrown them into the mud outside her door. She was very pleased with herself. And I left her pulling the newly sorted straw up into a new bed.

It rained almost the whole day and was sloppy, slushy, wet. Melting all the lovely snow. And because the ground is still frozen, all the water is just laid about in huge puddles.

But it was above freezing, which made the outside work downright pleasant, well, except for the cold water running down the back of my neck.

Have a lovely day.

  1. What kind of barn structure is that? It looks similar to the old wooden corn cribs, but they would have had slats closer together. I love architectural photos of rural buildings! As always, I love your candid photographs of winter days… and ya gotta love Sheila! I’d love to spend a day observing her – but in the spring months I think!

    • That is an old barn that is on my track around the pubs and old people. I think it is old crib with its cladding removed. This is another farm that is empty, its owner in a retirement home.. I really hope someone will come along and buy it one day and save the tidy little house. c

  2. Sheila is just too funny for words. And she does need a children’s book series all her own. I’d like a picture of the discarded bits and pieces lying inthe mud!

  3. Your photographs are exceptionally beautiful today. Poetry-inspiring. Love Sheila’s housekeeping. I’ve got some “bits” I’d like to toss out the door too! I think she’s onto something! Time for a glass of wine in these parts. Have a safe ice-skating-free day.

  4. Well, HERE you are! I haven’t gotten an email notification re your posts in days, and I’ve been worried the storm had knocked out your power or that something else was wrong! I’m so glad to see that ‘s not the case, but I don’t know why the email notifications would suddenly stop. I can always come here and find you, I suppose. (I don’t like getting lots and lots of emails, I confess, but I always look forward to yours.) Will see about a fix–or sign up again to be notified? Anyway, I’m glad all are reasonably safe and sound after the Big Winter Storm!

  5. No rain here! So glad! Sunny and warm! Can’t begin to say how nice this feels! My little peanut is potty trained! Doing really good! 🙂 She loves the snow and has no fear of high mountains of the stuff! She eats like a little piggy! LOL
I don’t mind the rain, but if it freezes…oh oh…not good.
Good to hear you are out and about! It’s good for us to see the neighbors and get the news! 🙂
Baby is sleeping so I am trying to get some cleaning done today. Playing hooky for a bit! 😉
Love the skeletal stucture of the old barn! I hate it when they fall to their knees…makes me so sad. But this one is still standing valiantly! Ahhh it hurts that the old timers are passing on. Days and lives long gone…. There used to be a farmstead on every 1/4 section back in the day.
Your first photo looks like the county road going by our place at the corner! No human beings to be seen!!!! Am I alone in this world? Nahhhhh!!! LOL Only feels that way on a gray rainy day.
Had a delicious fresh pork patty sandwich for lunch! Mmmm…was deliciously seasoned and quite tasty in place of a burger! Nice change! Yum!
Have a good day Celi! Is it March yet???? No? Oh darn….and where are the crocuses peeking out of the snow and irises and daffodils popping up from down under…sigh… 🙂 One can only wish and dream of spring!
((((Celi)))) Top of the day to the fellowship! 😉

  6. Beautiful post, Celi. Wish we lived close enough to view the empty farm and settle there. No matter where we go, we will always have to have some land to raise our animals and veggies. Sheila is a treasure! Fa la la la la.

  7. Gorgeous wintry pics for those of us who don’t have to endure the cold – and Oh Sheila – what a character, what a delight, what a pig – hysterical !!!!! I love her…
