As you know when I was remodeling the lounge area of the house I took out the ceiling and turned the attic into a loft. (The builder was shocked and needed some convincing) This gives me lots of height above my head and if I must live inside I have to have height above my head.
I have a very tall old wardrobe against one wall in the lounge area that houses many things that I do not want to look at (everything except books and art) and Marmalade has worked out how to climb the ladder to the loft (which is hidden in an old wardrobe in a side room) he runs along the loft floor then jumps down onto the top of the wardrobe. High above everyone and warm.
But he cannot do all that backwards and has trained me to watch for the dangling legs sign. I then hold his basket above my head within reach, and heleaves his eagle perch and climbs into the basket and like a drunken sailor in a row boat rides standing in the basket elevator to the floor.
I am going to have to find him a bigger basket.
We had a heavy frost yesterday, then some sun, bits of rain and even a little snow, with a lot of wind. A strange day all up. But the peacefulness that has settled over the farm like a soft net around a bed, is still in place.
We eat a little, sleep a lot and try to keep clean. The firewood did a Loaves and Fishes overnight and after some splitting looks plentiful. So the fire is roaring, the barometer is rising and we have a few days to get ready for a second round with Old Winter.
I hope you all have a lovely day.
Your friend on the farm

Gosh, Marmy is growing! Love how he perches up there. Poor old Theo has a touch of arthritis this winter and we might have to install an elevator for him too…except in his case one which goes up to the sofa and bed. Hmm, maybe the more practical solution would be a stepping stool. 🙂 Love the peaceful calm of winter. Except that now I’m in the city and that kind of cancels out the winter peace so I have to grab brief moments of it. Was down at the ocean yesterday though and saw eight blue herons perching on trees and the most amazing kingfisher sitting on a sign. Grabbed those moments. 🙂
Wow, the herons always seem like messengers from heaven to me.. wonderful.. c
I think that is terrific with the loft area – I love it! Of course, I couldn’t climb it as gracefully as Marmalade let alone get down – snorts. Love it! XOXO – Bacon
When our KuneKune comes we are going to have to think about how he will get up and down my verandah steps.. how do your little piggy legs deal with the steps?.. c
Snorts. In my backyard kingdom when mom persists that go out and commune with nature – rolls piggy eyes – there is a board that is leaning from the ground up the five steps to the deck. It’s not a great incline so I can walk up/down the board. Do I like it – snorts of course not. I’m strictly and inside oinker 🙂 Can’t wait to see your new addition. XOXO – Bacon
Ah, your mom thinks well, I shall work on that one.. c
Smart cat and those orange tabbies are so darn cute.
Marmalade has you trained very well—-as do most animals with their humans. The loft idea is genius—but then—YOU are genius. 🙂
the type of genius i have is actually a kind of blindness to resistance. I simply cannot see why NOT. morning beth ann c
No, no—-you are genius. Don’t downplay it! Morning!!!
LOVE the kitty photos! What a cutie she is.
Hugs from Ecuador,
Kathy
Why is it that cats get all their own way? cheeky wee mite! Ooooh, lovely sky, but I bet you knew I’d say that!

Yikes! Another round with Old Winter!?! Not what I like to hear! Sometimes I don’t check our weather daily, especially when it’s a nicer, warmer day so I don’t have to see that “Old Man Winter’ is taking a big inhale and getting ready to exhale our way! Hope it’s just a little breathe this this around! xo
Not bad at all this time, we know what bad really is now!! They are saying snow but we will see.. but we have cold winds here, I hate the cold winds.. c
marmalade is quite handsome, and he has you trained well.
stay warm!!
I have the same problems with my kittens, can go up, not quite so good at coming down! Have big old Black Walnut tree that they run up, and whilst JJ seems ok in getting down, Oliver just sits on the branch waiting for me and the ladder to retrieve him!
Sitting in the kitchen this morning taking stock of all the seeds I already have and those I still need to order – think I may have over done the Tomatoes though, have 23 Packets, all a different tomato! Well I wanted to try some different heirlooms this year! Some have some interesting names too! Waiting for my friend to come and cover the interior of the GH with plastic to insulate it so I can start sowing.
Hugs, Lyn
ah, that is on my list for this week too, I am trying to be very sensible and only order what i will eat.. c
So dear C does that mean you could attach a slide to the wardrobe and everyone including you could just step on he wardrobe and whoosh to the bottom?
what a deeply cool idea.. I bet he would do it too! morning chris.. c
There, s none as crafty and beguiling as a cat especially ginger stripped cats. They know that if they were to get into difficulties, even just the slightest, there would always be a soft hearted human around to help…well done Softie! And yes Marmy will need a bigger basket
Morning Miss Whiplash.. c
Smart cat that Marmy, threatening skies. Hold on for round 2, hope it is at least warmer than round 1 🙂 Laura
Oh yes, just a little snow later in the week, just the usual cold so far.. c
I love that you are willing to be a cat elevator. The things we do for love – and amusement 🙂
Celi, very late but nonetheless Happy New Year! I will be back in the swing of things next week, finally but could not resist your title today – what a clever boy Marmalade is to have trained you to get him off his perch!
Hope you have been well.
🙂 Mandy xo
I knew a cat would entice you out.. .. love that you are having a good time off time! c
“Like a drunken sailor”… I love that! Isn’t it amazing how animals communicate with us? They seem to understand that we need signs or a little coaxing when they need our help. Marmalade is an entertaining soul…. ya gotta love the fellow!
