Yesterday the children and I released the old chooks into the big barn across the way.

They gravitated towards the central area, where there was straw and with the children playing amongst them they all looked so natural and happy. The children are delighted with their new friends who are now laying four eggs a day!.
The little dog on the property has shown a bit too much interest in the birds and tomorrow I will cover the holes in the barn so he cannot get in. They look like such a small flock in such a large barn.
Freedom at last they are thinking!

Can you see the pergola running along the front of the house. When the timber is dried it will be stained the same colour as the screened in porch. The Coupe (the addition on the left with the Goldilocks windows ) is now available for Farm Stays during the summer. I will discuss this more in my developing page called OPPORTUNITIES (it will sit up there beside the About page) though it is developing because life is like that. The little loft apartment is perfect for a one person retreat and we all know I need the help on the farm!! If you are interested let me know in the comments and I will email you.
For some unknown reason the weather has turned cold. Absolutely nobody is happy about it.
However there you are, if you try and fight the weather it becomes doubly miserable.
The sun will come back and in the meantime we are getting lots of good rain and many of you are needing rain so badly it would be churlish of me to complain.
Have a lovely time finding loveliness today.
Your friend on the farmy

Porch is looking great!
Gad the new ‘old barn’ is getting used and I am sure the chickens are happy to root out all and any bugs that may have taken residence.
Heavy rain and flash flood warnings here for today, so won’t get much gardening done – and there are so many weeds this year! Oh well as you say, can’t challenge the weather. Off to go get my milk from the farm. At least with all the nice spring grass I am getting tons of great cream from the Jersey cows!
Hugs
Lyn
I love the view of your house from across the yard, gives a different Farmy perspective. I’d love a farmstay in the Coupe. Post up on my blog about the blockade yesterday and a surprise turn of events, here’s a link if you’d like to see http://stitchandsow-homeandgarden.blogspot.com.au/.
Yes, we had wonderful news today with the suspension of the drilling programme. Great what people power can do. I was expecting to drive out there in the early hours next week to join the blockade. The atmosphere at the camp is fantastic and, like you say, every thing is very well run and well organised. Cleanest portaloos I’ve ever used. 🙂 Joy
Hi Joy……yes, that was my thought about the porta-loos……I was a bit reluctant to go, but was pleasantly surprised. Apparently the camp’s going to stay and they’re applying for a DA to make it more permanent…..those mining companies aren’t going to give up in a hurry!
Had not caught up with this as yet!! Have ‘voted’ on the issue with various bodies and am jubilant people power is having some effect!! Good’on’ya and have a good weekend both of you 🙂 !
You too Eha, thanks for yor votes and encouragement. 🙂
Wow, a farm stay in the coupe has just been entered onto my Bucket list in CAPS, that is after I cleaned up all the salivation off the keyboard and screen! 🙂 Those old cooks may end up being your prize layers again in their new accommodation. I did notice your ‘join us’ page the other day and wanted to ask if we should sign up with our geographic locations – a bit like the blog post we all did a little while back, for quick reference. We are getting colder too, the whole world can’t be cold surely? hope you really warm up properly soon. Laura
Wow Laura.. what an excellent idea! I shall make an announcement tomorrow and see who else would like to do that equus will love this idea too!..thank you c
It’s hot in nothern California and we are in severe drought . So, please send some rain our way.
Lovely to be looking back at your house, instead of looking out from it! And the Girls are clearly delighted with their new quarters.
something tells me the coupe might book up quickly! oh the potential of the new barn! your head must be swimming with ideas!!!
I wish you were having the glorious weather that arrived here today, just right for a scented walk on the green path – pictures and poem here: http://vivinfrance.wordpress.com/2014/05/15/blooming-bocage/
I’m sure those chooks will be happy in their new home – that’s one gorgeous barn.
love,
ViV
What gorgeous wood in the barn! Such a splendid structure, c. Good afternoon to you all from a warm and sunny Sussex. 🙂
C, I would be there in a heartbeat to help if I could – these damn oceans between us!
Have a beautiful happy farmy day.
🙂 Mandy xo
Gosh the barn is a many splendid thing, I realise I have some catching up to do around here, and am wondering what you are going to fill the barn with,
Just need to sort out an airfare and I’d be there retreating into the garden EVERY day ALL day
Oh, my goodness! I would love to help on the farmy! Will there be bookings in fall as well?
I am sure there could be. How wonderful. It would be a perfect place for you to work on your writing. c
It would be that!
I would love to do a farm stay sometime, Celi. Don’t know when or how. But someday.
What a delightful thought. The acoustics in this little building are very interesting, I am sure your guitar would love to come here with you!.. c
Oh the things we would all see on the Farmie!!! I love the Coupe and can imagine that it will be filled. The weather got cold here, too. Ugh.
Morning Beth Ann. I have no idea what will happen but until The Matriarch moves in it will be a snug little place to hide away for anyone who needs a break from the city life.. c
I was complaining about the lack of rain, now I’m complaining about the non-stop rain. Apparently, I can’t be pleased 🙂 Actually, I’m complaining more about the temperatures. Much too cold for the tomatoes that were planted when it was oh so warm. Such is the life of a gardener.
The ‘Barn Across the Way’ is awesome!!! I must see it on our next visit to the farm. And maybe on a future visit, I can come without the rest of my family and to do some work. It would be such a wonderful learning experience and I so love learning the ins and outs of farm life.
That is a great idea Deb, you could give yourself a wee retreat. We are awfully mucky now though! the pigs are loving it.. but not the cold, they do not like the cold.. c
It will have to be on a weekend day, but we’ll figure that out soon!
The Barn is really beautiful, just waiting for you to make it even more useful. If only we could share our weather troubles, we would end up with endless perfect days. Yesterday we had record-breaking heat (39C here in Long Beach, CA) and there is no hint of rain for our parched fields nor to put out the wildfires all around.
The more pictures you post, the more barn envy I get. Such a treasure! I am sorry for more cold. I am wearing a jacket in Texas- in May of all things. Strange year for weather.
