Yesterday morning I was in a right grump. It was cold and raining and COLD and RAINING. I know it is bad to be in a grump about it being cold and raining with so many of you in California in a terrible drought but I was grumpy. Logic plays no part in grumpiness.
So I jammed my legs into my clown suit and my hands led my arms in a mood through my jacket and I stomped into my boots and out I went to do chores and yell at the dogs who were too bloody cheerful for my liking.
But then after lunch the sun came out…
and the bees came out and are already gathering pollen from the dandelions …
and the pigs came out to graze..
and I dug the weeds for the Plonkers (your header shot) and all was forgiven. Cold is OK if there is sun.
I was very, very happy to see the bees flying. That is a sign that the Russian Queen is out and cracking the whip. Tomorrow if there is a sunny moment again I shall open the hive and check her tiny box and see if they have indeed eaten the marshmallow plug that is in her doorway and accepted her as their leader.
Have a lovely day.

PS. It has been suggested that you might like to go to the JOIN US page (above) and leave a short message with your country of origin. Even if you do not comment often. You and I are always discussing the weather so it could be a very sweet reference page for The Fellowship. Absolutely no obligation of course My darlinks but a very clever thought.

So excited about your bees! And keeping my fingers crossed that your queen is indeed cracking her whip. We, too, started a new hive with a new Russian queen for our more docile Italian bees, and just checked yesterday and she has been released and bees are flying in and out. Well, you know what a feeling of relief that is! Here’s to our hives thriving from here on out!!! 🙂
…and I always associate being grumpy with a hangover 😉
Weather indicates my degree of grumpiness, too. Cold and raining is just not a good scenario… especially in May. I’m grumpy today – even with sun – because the flash flood of last night wiped out a whole bunch of my work and filled my frog pond with muck and wood chips from the neighbor’s yard. I hope my frogs are ok.
It’s ok to be grumpy, grumpy makes feeling good so much better.
I joined you on Facebook and get you daily post in my email box. Is that what you would like us to do?
I was born an raised in Germany. I moved to the US in my twenties and have lived in Northern California in a costal town called Santa Cruz for many years.
My husband’s mother lived in Santa Cruz for years in a wonderful ground floor apartment overlooking the ocean. Her view included a conifer that was perched on the edge of the cliff overlooking the Pacific that looked like it could plummet down the slope at any moment. It was wonderful. You live in a wonderful little town.
Oh yea,,,,we remember the indoor plunge at the boardwalk in Santa Cruz, too. My German aunt lived close by.
I love my little town. Kim, do you remember the address of your mother? Could she see the Boardwalk from her apartment ? If so, I think I know where it was.
Emily, the indoor plunge at the boardwalk is gone and has been replaced by video games. It’s sad .
Look at how your trees are leafed out. We’re just beginning to see that here in Minnesota. And you’re right, cold is bearable when the sun shines and the sun isn’t shining here today and the temp is cold. But I hung my laundry outside anyway.
Your green is stunning! Rich and lush and lovely! Someday we will get there…I hope!

It was 38 degrees here in Chicago so I brought my potted plants in . Daisies, Gerbera daisies. I just love them. And one pot of Dahlinovas. I think that’s their name. And I’m grumpy every day in sunshine or in rain.
Isn’t it amazing how quickly things green up. Like the song…..Spring is busting out all over. After a few nice warm days, grumpy is the rule for some cold days thrown in. Grrrrrrrrrrr. Foot stomping helps, too.
I am happy your day got better! Rain is necessary but I can understand how you felt. When it rains here we lose a day of work. I am grateful any way! And the poor folks in California (my home country) are really suffering. I wish I could have sent them the 3 inches of rain we got here in Houston on Tuesday!
That green. It almost makes my eyes hurt with verdant joy. That is what rain can do!
Grumpy = being human!!!! Oh, I DO wish I could send my Southern Highlands weather over to you, even for a couple of days!! Twixt 6-12 C at nights, and an even 20-24 C for the next week in daytime. Virtually no wind and all sunshine!!!!!! NIce 😀 !! An this is the very end of autumn!! Of course we are complaining ’cause we have to water our gardens 😉 !
What good news. Everyone is happy when the sun comes out. We are having one sunny day after the other at present, and that makes me feel warm inside even when it’s not. (if you know what I mean). Bees flying and gathering nectar – fantastic!

This is one of my favorite blogs..I sit down with my tea each morning, and follow along with Celi as she lives her day to day on the farm. Fantasic.
I feel you, my mood reflects the weather a lot of the time as well.
The weather system bringing this rain really is grumpy inducing. It’s been a struggle this week! But oh when the sun comes, it’s wonderful.
