So is it sunny there? He said. (The hay man is a man of few words. The phone too small to accomodate any more.)
Yup, I answered. Lots of sun. We got 2/10ths last night. (Pause.)
Well, not too bad, he said. Woke me in the night, he said, thought the niece had flushed the toilet. Rain. Everytime we cut.
Ground was soggy to start with. I said.
Yup.
Should be ready to turn tomorrow. I nodded to the phone.
Yup. Your rakes a big one. Take the corners wide, he said. Start on the second row in. Turn the outside one over last. That’s a thick field.
OK , I said. Bale Saturday?
All goes well, he said.
Looks like it might.
Yeah well. See you Saturday then. Whats that noise?
Poppy biting Tima on the bottom to make her squeal. (long pause as we both listened) It’s a game.
Hogs. He said. Yeah, well. I’ll call you Saturday.
Yup.
We hung up at the same time. The farmer and farmer-ess both not too good on the phone.
I hope you have a lovely day.

I love the picture of the rows of hay. The conversation made me laugh (you are so good on dialogue) Fingers crossed for you!
