Still the heavy lid of the sky sits on my head. One gloriously sunny day in weeks and that was the day before yesterday. But I have always loved a challenge. And challenges don’t always rush in sat atop handsome horses wearing chain mail and carrying swords. Sometimes a challenge is just the repetition of cloudy days. We can beat this. First World Problems.
I could always Look through the Too Many chinks in the barn walls and wonder how long it can stand – this old barn of mine. Best to focus on the weather.
And it is warmer. We are above freezing these last few days. And tomorrow it will rain. Maybe this winter will not be that bad after all temperature-wise.
But when I take the shots so late in the day we get this.. blurs..
Though blurs tell a story too.
I am working fast trying to feed all the animals and birds before the light has gone and if I get too late into the chook house they all drop from their perches like fluttering stones (boulders) about my head, best to feed them before they start to roost – so if I start late I am in a hurry.
John bought me a new hose.. isn’t it .. UM.. bright.. ?
How is it that weather has taken such a hold on my emotions? This is a challenge. But I MUST remind myself not to leave the photographs of the day until the late afternoon. There is just no light. I need to take the Camera House out in the mornings.
If I were a chicken I would not be laying any damn eggs either! This is what happens if I leave water in the buckets over night.
These ice buckets have been sitting here like this for days and days.
Good morning. Today we have visitors from the city! Thank Goodness! Hopefully they will dodge the freezing rain and get here in time for the chores!
Have a lovely day.

Shortest day of the year ahead and all. We appreciate your photos blurry, washed out…any old way at all and we all know that the farmy needs to be cared for first, long before our glimpse of the day. No one wants chooks clomping them on the head like stones…
for once I am looking forward to the shortest day! tho I know it always gets colder after that!c
Love the day glo hose! Very hip. It’s dull and grey here too, but nowhere near as cold as where you are. I have sent you an email about the payment for the calendar, but for some reason it will not send. So it’s just to say I have paid for sheilas calendar plus postage via Pay Pal x
Looks like Boo is adapting to his coat! Leaden skies here too. Makes me feel sluggish.
Aw, winter doldrums of grey skies are definitely here. Keep thinking of the future – not long you will be with your family and it is SUMMER there right? SUN and SUMMER await just a few weeks away.
As for the ice buckets – my dogs would be licking them like Popsicle pops…..They love to eat ice and when it snows, my Gracie eats little trails all through their yard. It looks like a little animal has been leaving trails. Silly girl!
how you ever find time to take pictures , write a post everyday is beyond me…are ye Superwoman?
It has been gloomy here too. I miss the New Hampshire sunshine and crazy storms! I had forgotten how gray even eastern Washington gets in the winter. Yesterday we had snow though which helped to brighten things up a bit. Hopefully you’ll get at least a few peeks at the sun throughout the weekend. I say eat more dessert. They may brighten those cloudy emotions. 😉
We’ve had a week of cloudy, drizzly, foggy days. It puts me out of sorts and makes my hair “Texas Big”. I announced to my hubby that if we were to ever move to the Pacific Northwest, I’d have to grow it out so I could pull it up in a ponytail.
Hopefully the weather will break, yours and mine, and bring sunshine back.
Not too bad in Nottingham about 6C with beautiful sunshine thankfully. The hose looks like a very bright green snake draped around the post.
Stick candles in those bucket ice chunks. That will give you a beautiful glowing light when the real light disappears into the darkness of evening.
Ooh! Pretty!
What a good idea 🙂
We’ve had sea fog for 2 1/2 days now….so sleepy…..sleepy. That hose will be able to be spotted in all the grey!
I bet that bright yellow will come in handy one day! I hope…
I feel the heaviness of these gray days as well. But there is a bright side. Where I live in southeast Michigan there are 10 hours and 55 minutes of daylight today. It has not changed in 3 days! The earth will tip some more yet but we are nearing the point where it will start tipping back the other way and daylight hours will start to increase for us. .That is a psychological boost for me. Now if we can just get that sun to shine through! I love my calendar and my shirt should arrive today. I can’t wait to see it. Have a beautiful day even though it may be gray where you are. (and it certainly is here)
What an excellent way to look at it, the earth pausing, am I pausing with it? hmm.. c
We have had a week of gray days, drizzle and some rain. At least our temps are balmy in the 50’s and 60’s. It’s good napping weather if you can steal away for an hour or so! I think buckets of ice are interesting. I once did a post called, “The Artistry of Ice in a Bucket”. I dumped out a frozen disc of ice from a bucket and almost walked away… then discovered tiny fissures and bubbles and interesting designs in the round chunk of ice. Fascinating… something so simple as frozen water can be highly beautiful.
I don’t take pictures when it’s gloomy either. No definition, and little NZ birds are really zippy, I can’t hand hold the lens for slow exposures and blurry birds aren’t interesting.
Weather does a number on my moods too, we just had two weeks of nor’easter and reading back through my journal – I can really see its effect. Now we have the beginnings of that sticky humid Northland pre-Christmas weather, muggy, I would love an ice bucket to hug. That hose rocks! I’m sure you can do something visually creative with it.
It’s grey and gloomy here today too, but I’m jumping for joy….it’s raining, the water tanks are full again and my newly planted garden beds are getting a good soaking. And it’s hot and humid already at 6am!
rain on newly planted gardens is always a joy! wonderful.. c
