Shh, just listen: (Audio)

Just for you!

Close your eyes (if you like) and just listen (if you want to). These are the sounds in the barn yesterday in the middle of the morning. I left my phone on record and went off to hang out the washing. So there is no-one in the barn but you and the animals. I think you will be surprised at the cacophony.

Today is just for listening. During this recording you will hear your wee goats. The chickens, roosters. Earlier are the kunekune, later it is Poppy. A truck drives up and stops (Our John). You will even the sounds of Godot gently looking for his girls.  And the birds. Always the birds.

A new frontier… thank you to Charlotte from Milan who suggested this.

I look forward to doing this again. It is a totally new experience for us isn’t it?  Something for us to explore.  We certainly have made a big leap across the divide.  Do you like it? or would you rather that the sounds were only in your imagination.

Today Our John starts back at work. So now we UP the ANTE – as I will be taking over the plants as well. New eggs are in the incubator and today Jake and I get all the materials for him and his team to make the new chicken (and turkey) tractors.  He has a plan.

Have a lovely day,

Your friend on the farm,

celi

  1. Oh my gosh. Hilariously loud! I suppose I somehow knew there would be noises, but your still images so often look so calm, I think my imagination had been confusing tranquility with quiet. Haha! Thank you for this.

  2. Delightful! The goats each have their own voices. I guess I thought they would all sound the same. Godot is a gentle fellow. Thank you. Those were sounds for the soul. 🙂

    • usually by now John is well ready for the ground to thaw so he can get back to work, but this year he has his glass room – and he really did not want to leave it in my care.. and now of course it is cold and blowing a gale.. poor fella.. c

  3. Wonderful! Of course you do realise that you’re going to have to get up in the middle of the night to record Sheila snoring!!!

  4. Wow, it was always so quiet in my mind. I guess I never thought about the sounds before. So much energy and life. I love the little goat cries. The pig snorting made Evie laugh and giggle uncontrollably. This was great I hope you do it again!

      • Hi Cecilia, no sign of geese yet. Sorry it took so long for me to respond but I am still getting used to how this blog thing works. I just found a bunch of messages from people! She is wearing farm PJ’s they have pigs and cows, we will have to take a picture for you, especially of the Sheila and Poppy on the jammies.

  5. That’s just perfect! I already get such joy from reading your blogs, and this takes it to a new level. Now if only a tiny goat would magically appear for me to pet, the experience would be complete 🙂

  6. A soundscape is such a powerful thing. That was wonderful for me–especially hearing the sweet little kids–and I imagine a real treat for those who’ve never spent any time on a working farm. Great idea. I’d love to hear the chicks, too!

  7. The audio really brings your world to life. I think they were all saying hi to us, knowing you were recording them, or they were talking to you and each other. It makes you wonder what they way to each other besides “Mom, I’m hungry, or I want to go outside and walk in the warm air”. Lovely!
