Shh, just listen: (Audio)

Just for you!

Close your eyes (if you like) and just listen (if you want to). These are the sounds in the barn yesterday in the middle of the morning. I left my phone on record and went off to hang out the washing. So there is no-one in the barn but you and the animals. I think you will be surprised at the cacophony.

Today is just for listening. During this recording you will hear your wee goats. The chickens, roosters. Earlier are the kunekune, later it is Poppy. A truck drives up and stops (Our John). You will even the sounds of Godot gently looking for his girls.  And the birds. Always the birds.

A new frontier… thank you to Charlotte from Milan who suggested this.

I look forward to doing this again. It is a totally new experience for us isn’t it?  Something for us to explore.  We certainly have made a big leap across the divide.  Do you like it? or would you rather that the sounds were only in your imagination.

Today Our John starts back at work. So now we UP the ANTE – as I will be taking over the plants as well. New eggs are in the incubator and today Jake and I get all the materials for him and his team to make the new chicken (and turkey) tractors.  He has a plan.

Have a lovely day,

Your friend on the farm,

celi

  1. I want to put this on an endless loop and listen to it all day here in my sterile office!!! It’s wonderful!!!

  2. This is wonderful! Their voices are so sweet. Were the only ones missing the cows, or did *I* just miss them? Godot’s gentle call, the goats, I just love this. Thank you for sharing a little MORE of your world. 🙂

  3. I absolutely love this!!! Thank you for sharing. The goats–oh the goats. Why do I love goats so much? This is definitely one I am sharing. Thanks for the lovely morning sounds. I feel as if I am right there with your lovelies.

  4. Reminds me of being at the 4-H fair, we didn’t have that much variety at home. I miss farm animal sounds, beats the heck out of fighting neighbors. Which sounds are from Godot? Is it the soft honk or the more heavy, deep sound towards the end? My experiences with peacock sounds has been squawks or the loud halp (help) sound they make.

    • Yes it is that soft honking, it comes and goes towards the end of the tape… there are pigeons in there too.. but those pigs are so rowdy it is hard to hear all the birds.. I have not heard the big peacock calls yet.. maybe soon..

  5. Oh thank you so much! It’s GREAT! So much livelier than I imagined! want to use as a meditation too! Loved that suggestion. Oh Celi, you know what’s weird? I hear it in colors. I hear lots of red and yellow and orange and ochre. Wood tone. Just lots of warm colors. So beautiful! And the little goats’ voices are toooo sweet!

    • Wonderful, it was a stunning suggestion Charlotte and so easy to capture actually.. Even I love listening to it and picking out each sound.. fancy hearing the colours of the barn.. most excellent.. c

        • If you are hearing in colours, that’s not weird – it’s one aspect of something called synesthesia. Some people associate sound or words or numbers (or any number of other things) with colours. Just read a YA novel called “A Mango Shaped Space” about a young girl with synesthesia, it was a lovely read. Bet you can find lots of info if you google it.

      • That would be wonderful. I do think we need audio samples also of the (after)noon and night conversations. Then we could really immerse ourselves in the rhythm of a day on the Farm. Bonus: you could incorporate that soundtrack in future speeches and lectures, ha! In fact, your Farmy Book could come with an integrated sound chip… The possibilities…!! 😉 Thank you for today’s fabulous audio. What a treat!

  6. Celi, this is fabulous. I teared up! And I live in the countryside, so I hear some of these sounds at the farms nearby but it’s the combination of so many at once. It is dear and special and wonderful. I wanted it to never stop!!! Your next project must be to make a CD!!! I mean it!! “Celi’s Farm”- I’d play it over and over while I write. And you must record it soon while the goats are still small!! Thank you for this.
