I fly out to LA today. Usually I leave the midwest 24 hours ahead of my international flight (that leaves from LAX) – I missed a flight to New Zealand once due to a weather hold up in Chicago – never again – now I leave here the day before and wait over on the West Coast.  It is over four hours to Los Angeles from Chicago.  And I am always a little relieved when I get closer to LAX.

Do you remember that I was held up for five hours in Midway just the other day because there was lightning?  See? Imagine if I had a connection.  It is so easy to miss an important flight.   I do everything I can to make my international connection on time. Though, of course,  nothing is ever sure.

So, off I go to LA, where I will stay in an hotel by the sea so I can decompress and have a good walk along the boardwalk before taking a cab back to the airport and board my next flight tomorrow night. It is amazing what kinds of deals you can get if you book ahead and off-peak.  This time I am staying in Manhattan Beach. Nice.

I hope you have a lovely day.

I will be in tomorrow as I will be blogging as often as I can as I travel- I want to show you some more of my beloved New Zealand. Our farm blog now morphs into a travel blog. I LOVE to travel.

OK – I have lots to do before we drive off. Talk soon.

  1. Wishing you a safe and wonderful trip. Manhattan Beach has beautiful beaches and is easy from and to LAX. Will Email you my contact info in case of emergency as I live 15 mins from LAX. Looking forward to finding out how it all goes and seeing Mew Zealand -a dream of mine to visit someday.

  2. You leave us with great photos – I especially love Miss Sheila’s blushing bottom and Manu’s human eye. I’m so with you on the virtues of breaking the trip to ensure good connections. I used to do the same thing flying London to Oz, stopping overnight in Singapore to avoid hideous stress if the inbound flight was delayed. It has the benefit of letting you get some decent rest, too. So, we’re almost off, tucked in your pocket at the start of the adventure. Travel in safety, Miss C, and arrive in health.

  3. Have the safest and most enjoyable flight…I will be thinking of you having that glass (or 2 or 3) of white wine as you gaze at the Pacific. I figure that’s a tradition, no? I can’t wait to see your New Zealand. Say hello to the cloud tops for me.
