We arrived in the dark last night and I am quickly writing to you before we dress and launch out to the beach.

This really is a sweet little beach house – very 50’s ?

Two big living spaces and a great big kiwi back yard. Way too many decorative objects but there you are.

They look sweet. Have a gorgeous day!

It’s the first day of Plastic Free July.
A month of spreading the word to Turn the Plastic Tap OFF.
I am working on my extended plastic free goals this month. What are yours?
Take good care.

How lovely!
Yes!! Just right.
Stay warm. Take a rubbish bag to the beach and pick up the plastic flotsam. Breathe deeply to give your brain cells a proper dose of proper air. Have a warm hug from slightly cool (9°C) north Queensland.
The wind is so strong it very well might blow me right out to Queensland.
I think we’re getting the tail end of it…
Himitangi beach stretches forever…..I hope the weather there today is as crisp and brilliant as it is down the coast in Porirua. I remember doors with frosted pictures on them – stags, trees, ballet dancers – 60’s stylings. Love the old photos on the walls – perhaps linked to the house. Single use plastic bags for fruit and vegs etc in shops are gone forever today in Aotearoa New Zealand. Bring your own from now on. Also plastic cutlery, straws and some other items. Good stuff.
Yes! I love it. Plus AirNZ is using bamboo cutlery which is a change from last year. Great to see.
I love the old decorative objects (you’d hope happy memories) looks like home, that and proximity to the beach would make me want to stay.
The plastic free thing is the hardest… constantly working on making more from scratch at home, using up bits and pieces fully (the other day I found enough dregs of lip balm to keep me going for a couple of months) and buying less.
Yes lip balm. Finding it in a little glass jar is a bonus.
Hope all’s well. Love the art deco dancing people. Plastic free July, that’s a challenge. I buy as little as possible but completely free will be beyond me l think!! Enjoy yourself x
Completely free is impossible – especially if you like cheese!!
It looks like a cozy little place! Who is that boy walking on the back of the couch? Now I know why most rentals have 2nd hand furniture! 🙂
We take our own veg bags to the store and always cloth bags for everything else. Bamboo toothbrushes now and other utensils! 👍🏼
I love my cloth bags – I even travel with them!
Same!
I love the house!
It is a lovely we house and the sun is blazing in right now too which is great! The dunes are taking care of a lot of the wind.
Oh Celi ~ I love it!!! I love the pictures on the wall and the lamp and flowers!! You need to discipline that boy and get him off the furniture!! That’s a NoNO!! You have a good time at the beach!!! We had 1.1″ rain yesterday afternoon!!! But many places had 60-80 mph winds and damage ~ many of those places out of power. Alot of tree damage ~ more S of I-74. Many corn fields in places are flat on the ground ~ and pulled out of ground ~ with so much hot n dry weather ~ it doesn’t have much chance of recovery. So that’s what crop insurance is for. We’re supposed to get more rain tonite. Have a great time!!! Luv ya.
That boy was closing a window for me.
So sad to hear of the crop damage – I hope my wheat is ok!
Fabulous! Enjoy!
The house is great. Thanks in large part to you, I’ve become very conscious of the policies of the companies I buy from. I stopped buying from one company because they sent out so many samples with each order. Lovely–but the samples were in little plastic jars. Ugh. At the moment I’m quite happy with Ursa Major skincare out of Vermont. Spendy, but great products. And they package everything in glass. No plastic. And, wait for it, they put their lip balm in cardboard. Enjoy the beach today. Oh wait, by the time you read this you day at the beach will be long over. And it will be the next day. Or something. I can’t quite get the time difference right.
Lip balm in cardboard. I must find this company! Thank you Charlotte!!!
